Redlands, CA Job Details Full-time 4 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Vision insurance Life insurance Qualifications Bachelor's degree Handling nucleic acids Full Job Description Overview Salary Based on experience Employment Type Full-Time Education Bachelor's Degree Travel Minimal Field Forensic Science About the Role As a Forensic Scientist, you will play a key role in analyzing biological evidence through every stage of the DNA workflow — from sample collection and extraction to quantification, PCR amplification, and capillary electrophoresis. In addition to casework and database/human identification processing, you will contribute to the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, including routine maintenance and administrative support. Court testimony and external proficiency testing are also required components of the role. What You'll Do Complete a comprehensive internal training program, including written, verbal, and practical competency assessments. Perform manual and automated/robotic laboratory procedures on casework evidence and reference samples, encompassing sampling, DNA extraction, rtPCR quantification, PCR, and capillary electrophoresis. Provide court testimony as required. Consistently meet or exceed quality benchmarks and productivity standards. Adhere to all standard operating procedures and accurately document all testing activities. Maintain professional proficiency through semi-annual external testing. Support quality control initiatives and assist with stocking and managing laboratory reagents and consumables. Carry out assigned equipment maintenance, cleaning, and general lab upkeep. Handle administrative tasks, including the scanning and organization of case file documentation. Provide additional laboratory support as needed. What We're Looking For A Bachelor's degree in Biology, Forensic Science, or a related natural science field; a Master's degree is preferred. 5 years as a Forensic DNA Analyst in an accredited laboratory is required. Strong, hands-on laboratory skills with a commitment to 100% accuracy. Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to maintain focus in a high-precision environment. Proven project management capabilities with a track record of meeting deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Comfort working in and around sterile laboratory environments, specialized equipment, and chemical reagents. Ability to handle biological materials, including blood and bodily fluids, with awareness of bloodborne pathogen protocols. Willingness to work with sensitive evidence that may be related to violent or criminal activity. Availability for occasional travel for court appearances or continuing education.
