Job Description

Purpose This position is responsible for assisting with research and development, validations of testing methods, and documentation. The primary focus of this role is transformer oil analysis, including method development. Essential Functions Weight of associated position responsibility, duty or task to successful performance: 15% Complete activities associated with document management: Maintain current Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) in files for the organization and binder for the Indianapolis facility Maintain chemical inventories Create documentation, work instructions, forms, etc. as needed for new and existing procedures Create Excel spreadsheets to document research results 15% Enter data into various spreadsheets on a routine basis 25% Complete activities associated with supplies management: Assist in procuring materials for the department Assist in assessing potential equipment purchases Inspect, maintain and repair laboratory equipment 45% Provide Research Chemist Support Conduct test to validate analytical procedures Assist with PT process for all labs Assist with evaluation of apparatus and methods to determine feasibility of additional in-house testing Perform routine lab analysis as necessary Assist in safety compliance Specific Job Knowledge, Skill and Ability The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to work autonomously Effective management of time and deadlines Advanced organizational skills (both physical and electronic organization) Required Qualifications Intermediate knowledge Excel Chemistry degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience required Experience in transformer oil laboratories is essential. Preferred Qualifications The preferred qualifications desired in terms of education, course concentration, work experience, technical knowledge and desired advanced certifications. Practical industrial or academic research laboratory experience Other Duties Adherence and support of the POLARIS Employee Handbook inclusive of the Standards of Conduct Learn and support the Quality Management System Learn and support POLARIS Lean Initiatives Other duties as assigned Safety Requirements OSHA laws require the use of the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing work duties that have the potential of risk to your health or safety. At POLARIS Laboratories, when going through the Laboratory it is required that you wear eye protection. Team members will be trained in the proper use and care of assigned
PPE. POLARIS
Laboratories provides the required PPE. It is your responsibility to report defective, damaged or lost PPE, or equipment that does not fit properly, to your Manager. To ensure safety throughout the facility, all employees are required to maintain up to date HAZMAT, OSHA, RCRA, Methylene Chloride, and General Laboratory Safety training as defined within the POLARIS Quality System.
