Full Job Description Description:
True North, LLC is looking for a motivated and skilled Associate Chemist to join our growing organization! Come and work for an organization that is a key partner in the OCM industry. The Associate Chemist will perform routine and non-routine analytical testing on botanicals, extracts, food, beverages, medical devices and other materials as deemed appropriate by management using validated methods (e.g., ICPMS, GC-LC, LC-MS/MS). Ensures data integrity and on-time, audit-ready results per ISO/IEC 17025 and Minnesota OCM/CTA requirements. Supports method verification/validation, instrument qualification, and continuous process improvement.

Key Duties:
Generate accurate, reliable analytical results that meet predefined method acceptance criteria and turnaround targets. Maintain compliance with ISO 17025, ALCOA+ data integrity, and
MN OCM/CTA
reporting and record-retention rules. Keep instruments in a verified, calibrated, and fit-for-use state; promptly flag/resolve issues. Maintain chain-of-custody, sample integrity, and confidentiality throughout the testing lifecycle. Contribute to method verification/validation, proficiency testing/ILC participation, and continuous improvement. Perform testing (e.g. residual solvents, pesticides, heavy metals, micro, mycotoxins, moisture/water activity) following approved methods and safety procedures. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical instruments; execute IQC/OC checks, system suitability, blanks, spikes, duplicates, and control charts; document any nonconforming work. Process and review data in LIMS/e-records with full audit trail; apply calculations, units, rounding, and significant figures per SOP. Calculate/confirm measurement results against acceptance criteria; initiate clarifications or retests when required. Draft clear, complete technical records and contribute to reports/COAs; submit for technical and QA review per QMS. Participate in method verification/validation/transfer tasks (accuracy, precision, linearity, recovery, LOD/LOQ, robustness); compile raw data and summary reports. Perform daily/weekly instrument checks, preventative maintenance, calibrations, and verify traceability of reference standards/CRMs. Escalate equipment/data issues; open deviations, support root-cause analysis and CAPA implementation. Maintain good laboratory housekeeping, EHS compliance, chemical hygiene, and proper waste management. Complete training and competence sign-offs before performing regulated tasks; keep training current.
Job requirements:
Education /
Certification:
BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (MS preferred for senior levels); in lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered. 3+ years hands-on analytical lab experience (pharma, medical devices, food, or environmental preferred). Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025, data integrity (ALCOA+), and LIMS/e-records.
Technical Experience/Knowledge:
Operation of ICP-MS, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, (mix depends on lab scope). Solid wet-chemistry and sample-prep skills (extractions, dilutions, filtration, digestion). Understanding of method performance characteristics (LOD/LOQ, MU basics, accuracy/precision). Proficient with Excel and basic statistics; able to interpret control charts and spike recoveries High attention to detail, documentation rigor, and time management. Clear written/verbal communication; collaborative with QA, PMs, and Study Directors. Physical Requirements /
Working Conditions:
Work in laboratory environment with required PPE; stand/walk for extended periods; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. Handle solvents/chemicals per SDS; follow chemical hygiene and waste procedures.
