Full Job Description Overview:
THE ROLE
The Sr. Scientist will work onsite at our state of art Innovation and Manufacturing facility in Winston-Salem, NC. Serves as a technical contributor and source of advanced knowledge in principles, concepts and theory related to food ingredients, products and process. This individual will design, direct and/or conduct food formulation, process development/optimization on assigned projects. The position accountabilities include identifying, documenting and validating the appropriate food ingredients, formulations and unit processes that meet product standards and requirements, including product costs, quality, safety and uniformity. The Sr. Scientist is a key position in R D and must inspire and energize employees through advanced technical knowledge, personal leadership, influence, thorough planning and commit to timely and appropriate results.
HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE
Independently create and implement strategies for formulation development and solve complex problems related to nutritional beverage/food ingredients, formulations and processes. Own product development achievements by proficiently working with cross functional teams such as Marketing, Sourcing, Quality, Licensing and Scientific Affairs in project teams Identify new food ingredients and work with QA and sourcing to get them qualified in the system Conduct product feasibility assessment on new product concepts for nutritional beverage/food formulations Create product trial documentation, and independently oversee product trials Lead product cuttings with cross-functional teams, and align on decisions/actions Creates formulations requiring modifications of existing vitamin/mineral premixes, agricultural and protein- type ingredients with minimum/no guidance from senior technical staff. Construct and lead stability protocols (ingredient, product and process) Propose DOEs as appropriate, obtain support from senior technical scientist Support cost saving initiatives Perform additional duties as assigned

SKILLS AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
Skills:
Ability to function as a technical expert in nutritional beverage/food prod Ability to identify, assess and determine the suitability of new raw materials for use in powder formulations. Ability to run appropriate project plans and complete them with limited to no supervision Solid communication skills, both written and verbal Highly skilled at predicting outcomes and solving ingredient/formulation problems in a practical, timely and collaborative manner. History of achieving positive results and adding value. Ability to navigate a fast-paced environment with multiple interested parties Ability to coach and mentor in an industrial setting. Ability to interact optimally at all levels of organization
Experience:
4+ years' product development experience solving technical problems with nutritional beverage/food related formulas from food industry Has successfully developed, piloted and conducted a tech transfer a powder formulation into a manufacturing environment. Has achieved positive results and added recognized and quantitative corporate value Is recognized as a strong technical contributor for nutritional beverage/food ingredients, formulations and process expertise Successful track record of completing development tasks Business process orientation including adherence to New Product Process, testing protocols and appropriate Product Lifecycle Management (e.g. Agile) and laboratory notebook documentation Competent use of MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint Experience in working in a GMP environment Experience base in functional areas that interact with R D such as
QA, QC, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain Education:
• Bachelor of Science in Food Science or related field
