Job Description:
Analytical Technician Department Research & Development / Flavor Laboratory Reports To Sr. Analytical Scientist Position Summary The role of the Analytical technician supports the Sr. Analytical Scientist and Flavorists using laboratory technics such as compounding flavor formulas and operation of analytical equipment. Additionally, the analytical technician will perform sample preparation for analysis via flavor and food extractions and provide written reports on analytical findings as needed. The ideal candidate will have experience working with Agilent software and is familiar with wet chemistry and the operation of GCMS.
Key Responsibilities:
Routine analysis of flavors to support R&D Compounding Flavor formulas for comparison to target Sample preparation Loading samples for analysis Operation of Gerstel and Agilent GC-MS equipment, centrifuge Maintenance of GCMS equipment and glassware Flavor analysis: Working within templates provided to analyze GCMS data files and reverse engineer flavor composition Maintaining and building libraries for analytical reference Provide feedback and support to Flavorists and Analytical supervisor Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related science. Experience 0-3 yrs of experience in a laboratory environment Knowledge of basic chemistry Knowledge of best lab practices Strong attention to detail Ability to multitask and to work in a fast-paced laboratory environment Ability to follow written formulas, instructions, and standard operating procedures Good organizational and record-keeping skills Strong teamwork and communication skills Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 40 pounds Standing for extended periods during lab work Ability to handle liquid and dry ingredients safely Career Path This role is a foundational position within the flavor industry and can lead to advancement opportunities such as Analytical Chemist, Senior Analytical Chemist, Application Specialist, or Apprentice Flavorist. Work Environment & Schedule Fast-paced, regulated laboratory environment. Ability to work shifts, and overtime as needed. Must be willing to wear required PPE (hairnets, safety glasses, steel-toed boots).
