Job Description

WHY DO WE NEED YOU?
The Chemist will use state of the art laboratory equipment to perform accurate and timely chemical analysis of products/materials and reporting these data in concise laboratory reports. Laboratory reporting includes providing sound conclusions based on interpretation of data and proposal of next steps. The role extends to assisting clients in determining the analytical options available and interpretation of data provided to meet or exceed the client's expectations. The Chemist will drive development of new test methods used for analytical characterization to drive improvement in lab capabilities and efficiencies. The individual will be responsible for evaluating, recommending and acquiring new analytical technologies/capabilities to replace or upgrade the current instrumentation. The Chemist will maintain the analytical equipment through proper servicing or preventative maintenance in conjunction with manufacturer to maximize up-time. The Chemist will be responsible for properly training staff scientists and technicians as appropriate to foster their CertainTeed career. The person in this position will coordinate the co-op program for the Testing Group to include the interview process, onboarding and training of the candidate and supervising day-to-day activities. The Chemist will be responsible for safety and 6S for the Analytical, Furnace and Microscopy labs for the Testing Group.
IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?
Bachelor's Degree (Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry or Material Science) with 3+ years of experience working in a lab environment or entry level MS Degree. Experience with wet chemical, chromatographic (GC/LC/MS), and elemental analyses (ICP&XRF) is preferred. Experience with spectroscopic methods (AA, UV/Vis) and thermal analysis methods (DMA, DSC and TGA) of materials preferred. Experience working with chemicals and related PPE and safety equipment. Ability to lead project teams, actively participate on teams and coordinate activities with multiple groups to achieve lab goals for the group. Strong communication, team building skills and ability to train others at all levels. Strong inter-personal, problem solving and organizational skills Demonstrated good knowledge of EHS requirements for R D labs.
