Job Description
- Capable of following standard electronic or written analytical methods and procedures.
- Ability to develop and document new analytical methods for customer products, final products, raw materials, and process streams, as needed.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Laboratory wet chemistry skills.
- Experience with SEM/EDX and microscopy is the primary responsibility of this position.
- Experience with the management and support of a laboratory information management system (LIMS) software is a secondary responsibility.
- Maintenance and management of software to backup data from the various instruments in the department is a plus.
- Ability to use and learn additional laboratory equipment and techniques, including but not limited to, ICP, IC, Sedigraph, FTIR, GC, GC/MS, HPLC, LC/MS, microscopy, SEM/EDX, DSC/TGA, contact angle, sample preparation techniques (such as: pyrolysis, SPME, extractions, and derivatizations).
- Ability to perform routine troubleshooting and maintenance on instrumentation utilized.
- Write detailed reports with analytical findings.
- Maintain well organized records of all work done, in conformity with departmental practices.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers.
- Ability to work with others on large cross-functional projects, as well as the ability to work independently.
- Detailed knowledge of safe work practices, as well as proper waste handling/ disposal in the laboratory, etc. Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations as pertains to the pulp and paper industry, is a plus. Requirements
- B.S. in Chemistry.
- Two (2) or more years' experience in an analytical lab setting preferred.
- Must be able to demonstrate ability to handle multiple projects.
Computer Skills:
word processing, spreadsheets, internet software, e-mail, database software.- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
