Job Description
Job Overview:
R&D Research Scientist We are supporting hiring efforts for our long-standing client, a global automotive glass manufacturer, to find an R&D Research Scientist who will be housed in the Ypsilanti facility. This R&D Scientist will lead technical problem-solving and provide scientific guidance through hands-on research, development and validation in support of global product development and manufacturing of glass and glazing products. This is a hybrid opportunity.Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage multiple complex R&D projects and activities for glass and glazing products simultaneously.
- Design and execute complex qualitative and quantitative experiments.
- Interpret and communicate experiment results to develop new products, processes or technical knowledge and communicate results.
- Drive the concept, design, and development of new materials, technologies and processes within cross-functional project teams.
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of complex product or process issues and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Prepare and deliver high-impact technical reports, presentations and publications to internal and external stakeholders.
- Interpret customer specifications and validate products against defined requirements.
- Assure that all duties and responsibilities are accomplished within company policies and guidelines.
Requirements:
- 10+ years progressive R&D experience in ceramic and/or glass materials within automotive, coatings or related industries.
- Bachelor Science degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or related engineering discipline.
- Masters' degree preferred.
- Knowledge of glass or ceramic systems, including composition, processing, phase transformations, crystallization behavior and structure-property relationships.
- Demonstrated leadership of ceramic or glass development projects, including product investigations, root cause analyses and failure evaluations.
- Experience in ceramic and glass materials formulation and processing.
