What to Expect Tesla is looking for a highly motivated lead to provide operational leadership for a Cell Quality laboratory at Gigafactory Texas. This role is responsible for effective analytical laboratory operations including supporting staffing, training, facilities management, and providing technical guidance for quality and analytical processes. This role works closely with Tesla's Design, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality Engineering teams to coordinate cross-functional activities that improve laboratory operations with the highest standards of safety, quality, and output. What You'll Do
Anticipate, comprehend, and implement laboratory operational requirements to support analysis for incoming quality and production in 24x7 cell manufacturing environment
Lab staff hiring, training, and development
Lab facilities and environmental monitoring and control
Planning, purchasing, installation, calibration, and maintenance of lab equipment
Lab safety and adherence to any state, national or international requirements
Manage a team of lab engineers with performing routine quality and failure analysis as well as extremely high priority/rapid response projects method development
Manage the development of new and innovative routine and non-routine test procedures for Cell associated materials
Monitor and drive lab improvements
Support the implementation of new quality programs and author/manage updates to lab policies and standard operating procedures What You'll Bring
Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Metallurgy, or equivalent experience
5+ years of experience in relevant quality or lab management positions
Proven ability to lead a strong technical team in a lab environment
Demonstrated expertise in physical and chemical analytics, method development/validation, and quality controls
Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize in highly dynamic production environment
Detailed-oriented, able to work both independently and in a collaborative project-focused environment, prompt and dependable, and excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficient in data analysis/interpretation and presentation of experimental data
Able to work well under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
Prior experience with car manufacturing and associated materials testing is an additional advantage
