Job Description

MakingCosmetics Inc., based in Redmond Ridge, is seeking a Cosmetic Chemist. This position requires experience in formulating cosmetics, sourcing ingredients, and developing custom cosmetic formulations. Candidates must have a science background and prior (3+ years) experience working in a cosmetics formulation laboratory. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential, as the role reports directly to the owner and collaborates with department managers. Responsibilities include sourcing new ingredients, evaluating the need for new materials, and maintaining a keen interest in emerging cosmetic trends. Job Duties Develop and formulate innovative, marketable products and revise or reformulate existing formulas for the company or customers. Perform basic laboratory tests, such as pH and microbial tests. Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure that lab supplies and the working area are clean and organized. Create and update new product listings based on information provided by the manufacturer. This task requires excellent communication between departments. Coordinate ingredient promotions and collaborate closely with Marketing, Procurement, and IT teams. Gather information related to research and development, including raw material characteristics and processing techniques. Communicate all information regarding formulation, project status, costing, and results to customers in a professional and timely manner, while respecting the confidentiality of projects. Write, review, and approve production batch procedures. Monitor pilot and scale-up batches, and record test results, specifications, and procedures in a standardized format. Lead and participate in organizing and attending trade shows. Additional Tasks & Responsibilities Provide assistance to the Production & Repacking team during emergencies. Support the Marketing department with product video production. Physical Requirements Must wear a mask, lab coat, and gloves during production. Ability to stand for extended periods. Must be able to lift over 50 pounds. Minimum Job Requirements Minimum of three years' experience in cosmetic formulation, preferably in a GMP/ISO environment. Science degree required (preferably in Cosmetics). Ability to develop professional formulations for skin and hair care products (R&D). Knowledge of cosmetics production and scaling up for manufacturing. Basic regulatory understanding (GMP/FDA). Familiarity with equipment use and testing (homogenizer, stirrer, micro/pH testing). Preferred experience in formulation and a strong interest in trending cosmetics. Excellent coordination and organization skills. Computer proficiency with various apps and document formats. Ability to meet deadlines and deliver exceptional customer service. Excellent communication skills. Dependable, reliable, and flexible. Must not have allergies to fragrances or other cosmetics.
Pay:
$33.00 - $36.00 per hour
