UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our research team supporting innovative cardiology clinical trials. This dynamic position offers the opportunity to be directly involved in groundbreaking research, including experimental drugs and devices that improve patient outcomes. Working in a fast-paced and evolving environment, this role partners closely with physicians, patients, and interdisciplinary teams to advance clinical research while delivering exceptional patient care. Schedule:
Monday through Friday, dayshift
Location & Travel:
Primary location: 2808 Old Post Road, Harrisburg Occasional travel to 2020 Technology Parkway (Mechanicsburg), UPMC Harrisburg Hospital, and other Heart and Vascular Institute locations
What You'll Do:
Educate patients and families on clinical trial opportunities and participation, ensuring understanding of protocols, informed consent, and expectations Collaborate with study physicians and procedural teams to assess patient eligibility and support clinical trial execution Conduct patient follow-ups, monitor progress, and ensure continuity of care throughout the research process Enter, manage, and maintain accurate clinical trial data to ensure protocol compliance and data integrity Coordinate research activities while adhering to regulatory standards, patient safety, and ethical clinical trial practices

Preferred Experience:
Cardiology experience or clinical research experience preferred.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrates professional accountability through ongoing development, precepting new staff, mentoring team members, and contributing to a culture of continuous learning and improvement Serves as a role model for ethical nursing and clinical research practices, ensuring patient safety, informed consent, accurate documentation, and integrity of trial conduct Applies advanced assessment, analytical thinking, and communication skills to support patient care, research coordination, and interdisciplinary collaboration Supports patient recruitment and retention efforts while considering diverse patient needs and ensuring a compassionate, patient-centered experience Actively participates in quality improvement initiatives, identifies opportunities for innovation, and contributes to advancements in clinical research and patient satisfaction Builds strong professional relationships across teams, promotes a respectful and inclusive environment, and supports a healthy, collaborative workplace culture Adapts research processes and patient education to meet age-specific, cultural, literacy, and language needs, ensuring equitable access and understanding Bachelor's Degree Preferred. Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing required. 3 years of clinical research or nursing experience required.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse license or eligible for State Board Licensure.

BLS or CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Registered Nurse (RN) Act 34 Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
