Job Description

Vice Chair of Clinical and Translational Research Responsibilities Benefits Working at UTSW Position Overview The Vice Chair of Clinical/Translational Research is aimed at strengthening research infrastructure and fostering a culture of clinical and translational research within the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at UT Southwestern Medical Center. The overarching goal is to enhance research productivity while working within the department's financial constraints.
Key Responsibilities:
Identify and address inefficiencies in the administrative and research environment that hinder productivity. Participate in interviewing and hiring research personnel to support clinical research. Develop processes to nurture promising clinician-researchers, including allocating protected research time in collaboration with Vice Chairs and Division Chiefs. Ensure research expectations align with available resources and budget. Advise faculty on managing research programs from clinical, financial, and educational perspectives. Guide the recruitment of new scientist and physician-scientist faculty Work with the Incentive/Compensation Committee to revise research incentive programs to reward excellence across the department. Represent research interests on the Executive Committee and Incentive/Compensation Committee. Collaborate with Vice Chairs at clinical sites to promote a research-oriented culture across hospitals, residency programs, and fellowships. Serve as a model for research growth in other clinical areas. Identify residents for clinical research fellowships post-training. Participate in annual evaluations with the Chair and Vice Chairs, monthly Advisory Board meetings, and establish regular departmental research meetings. Act as a liaison between the Department and affiliated hospitals regarding clinical research operations.
Ideal Candidate Profile and Qualifications:
MD, DO, or equivalent degree. Board certification or board eligibility in Anesthesiology (ABA or equivalent). Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Texas. Engage in collaborative, multidisciplinary clinical care across the institution. Strong background in clinical and translational research. Proven ability to lead research initiatives and mentor faculty. Collaborative leadership style with strategic vision for research growth. Candidates with subspecialty training in cardiothoracic, obstetric, pediatric, regional, neurosurgical, or transplant anesthesia, as well as critical care, pain management, hyperbaric medicine, and perioperative medicine are welcome to apply.
