Environmental Specialist Job Description:
This position supports the Environmental Affairs, Water Field Services organization in the water quality compliance studies group. As a field-based role, it requires comfort with outdoor work year-round, including in inclement weather. The role involves conducting water quality, biological, and other environmental field monitoring, and exploring innovative approaches to maintain environmental compliance using various scientific techniques.Responsibilities:
Follow Field Sampling and Measurement organization accredited procedures to collect data in support of state and federal mandates. Conduct field monitoring for water quality, biological, and environmental compliance. Investigate and implement innovative approaches using biological, limnological, ecological, and water treatment techniques. Conduct fishery studies and species identification in specified areas. Work a minimum 10-hour day, 4 days per week (Monday-Thursday).Essential Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Fisheries, Ecology, or related field, or an Engineering degree. Basic knowledge of environmental chemistry, limnology, fisheries, wildlife, aquatic life, and plant life. Experience with environmental monitoring equipment to collect legally defensible data. Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office. Ability to work in physically demanding environments and contribute to team goals.Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Experience with groundwater sampling is a plus. Experience with boat operation is beneficial.Work Environment:
The position is primarily field-based, with work outdoors year-round and in varying weather conditions. The schedule typically includes a 10-hour workday, four days a week, from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Night work and some weekends may be required. The role may involve overnight stays, especially for projects in the western territory. The work environment is non-hazardous, and no personal protective equipment is needed. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Calera, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
