DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The Environmental Quality Project Associate is responsible for conducting environmental regulation work projects; assist the program and staff with a wide range of environmental projects. This position consists of a combination of field and office work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 Provide assistance on environmental projects to the Program Manager and other staff members.  Collect environmental field data from air, groundwater, surface water, soils, drums, tanks, lagoons, ponds and other media or items suspected of containing contaminants or for characterizations of other environmental parameters.  Conduct research on issues related to environmental projects; compile historical data from Tribal, Federal and State agencies; enter environmental data/information into computer database and spreadsheet.  Assist staff in developing and implementing environmental related projects with an emphasis on surface water, groundwater, soil and air programs; conduct facility inspections; implement Tribal ordinances; provide technical assistance on pollution prevention controls; conduct assessments and works on environmental permitting activities.  Assists in environmental mapping projects and assist in coordinating field activities with federal agencies, consultants, Tribal departments and land owners/operators.  Make presentations at public meetings and assist in developing federal grant proposals, and maintain program records.  Review and comment on plans, specifications, designs, reports, studies and procedures relating to environmental management and compliance.  Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
 Knowledge of computer software, especially word processing, spreadsheets and databases.  Skill in analyzing problems, identifying solutions and making recommendations in support of goals and objectives.  Skill in planning, organizing data, conducting individual research and analyzing data.  Skill in writing narrative reports as well as making oral presentations.  Ability to follow directions, both verbally and written instructions.  Ability to prepare required records and reports.  Ability to apply learned skills to new work situations.  Ability to make sound decision and have good judgment.  Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials and the general public.  Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Physical science, Biological Science, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a closely related field and a minimum of three (3) years field experience in environmental issues.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT
(S):  Required to obtain a Tribal Operator's permit. Valid state driver's license with a current proof of driving record for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record must be submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of the application.
