Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Scientist to join our environmental site investigation and due diligence team in Southern California at our San Diego or Costa Mesa offices. This role is ideal for an environmental professional who enjoys combining site investigation work with management systems, regulatory compliance, and client-facing communication. You will support projects spanning ASTM-compliant Phase I/Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, Environmental Management System (EMS) development and gap analyses, ISO 14001/ISO 45001 audit support, sustainability benchmarking, and EPCRA applicability and reporting (e.g., TRI and Tier II). You'll collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver practical, defensible solutions to national private- and public-sector clients while building consulting and project delivery skills. http://www.geosyntec.com/careers/. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Support due diligence projects requiring comprehensive historical research and the completion of ASTM-compliant Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ASTME1527-21
). Assist with Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and field programs, including groundwater, soil, soil vapor, and air sampling/monitoring; coordinate with drilling and analytical laboratories. Deliver multi-media environmental compliance support, including compliance audits/assessments, corrective action tracking, and ongoing environmental guidance to client operations teams. Support preparation and implementation of environmental programs and plans (e.g., SPCC Plans, SWP3s, and Slug Discharge Control Plans) and integrate requirements into client management systems where applicable. Support and, at the mid-level, lead components of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) work, including ISO 14001 andISO 45001
alignment, EMS gap analyses, internal audit planning/execution support, and development of procedures, registers, metrics, and corrective action tracking. Develop compliance documentation and applicability analyses for key regulations (e.g., EPCRA, CAA, CWA, and RCRA), including owning discrete deliverables for TRI and Tier II reporting (data requests, calculations/supporting documentation, and client-ready submittal packages) and maintaining compliance calendars. Delivering litigation support services under attorney-client privilege. Contribute to technical reports, correspondence, memoranda, specifications, and proposals; present findings to internal teams and clients through meetings, briefings, and workshops. Analyze and visualize data (including sustainability benchmarking metrics where applicable) and prepare clear maps, tables, and figures for technical memoranda and client deliverables. Support field mobilizations and site activities (e.g., contractor oversight, site health and safety coordination, equipment setup, and documentation) and, as needed, assist with remediation O&M tasks. Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed. Education and Licensure Bachelor's degree in geology, environmental science, engineering, chemistry, biology, or related field. (required) Master's degree in environmental policy, environmental management, sustainability, or related discipline. (preferred) Skills, Experience and Qualifications At least 5 years of experience working in environmental consulting and/or corporate environmental compliance/management systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required) Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to environmental compliance (e.g., EPCRA/TRI/TierII, CAA, CWA, RCRA
) and experience performing applicability analyses. (required) Experience supporting Environmental Management Systems (EMS), including EMS gap analyses and/or ISO 14001 andISO 45001
program implementation, internal audits, or certification support. (preferred) ISO 14001 and/orISO 45001
lead auditor certification and experience communicating audit results to client stakeholders. (preferred) Experience with sustainability benchmarking and developing practical metrics/scorecards to track environmental performance. (preferred) Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams. (required) Ability to independently manage assigned tasks and deliverables, lead small project workstreams (e.g., EMS gap analyses, audit readiness, or EPCRA reporting components), and coordinate with internal and client teams. (required) Experience reviewing work products for quality (QA/QC) and mentoring junior staff on field methods, data organization, and documentation. (preferred) Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required) Excellent writing, public speaking, and client communication skills (including presenting technical information to non-technical audiences). (required) Regular field work and overnight travel. (required) Current OSHA 40-hrHAZWOPER
training and refreshers. (preferred) Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required. Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required) This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.Minimum Salary:
$84,710 /Maximum Salary:
