The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is seeking a Limited Term Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) to oversee the Southern California Edison (SCE) workload in our Habitat Conservation Planning Program. This is a working supervisor position where you will supervise and conduct environmental review, permitting, and conservation planning functions for SCE projects. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with the California Endangered Species Act (CESA), California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), and Lake and Streambed Alteration (LSA) agreements, working to maintain a balance between environmental protection and project progress. CDFW may be serving as the Lead or Responsible Agency under CEQA in order to issue permits, in this role you will initiate, execute, and manage contracts with SCE, coordinate with consultants, and oversee the preparation of critical documents. You will guide and support the issuance of permits, ensure timely completion of environmental reviews, facilitate mitigation efforts, and assess the success of conservation measures across multiple regions.What You Will Do:
- Lead a team of Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialists) in environmental review, permitting, and conservation planning for SCE projects.
- Oversee the development and certification of CEQA documents for SCE's permits, including a Master Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement (LSAA) and possibly CESA incidental take permits for projects across Regions 4, 5, and 6.
- Coordinate with regional and statewide staff to ensure project goals are met on time and in compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to your team, fostering a collaborative environment and driving success in complex, multi-regional projects.

Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory)/Exam Bulletin This position is posted in the following counties: Orange County/Santa Barbara County. You only need to apply to one county. This position is a 12-month Limited Term (LT) and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent. If you currently have permanent status in your position and have passed probation, you have mandatory reinstatement rights into your former position at the end of this LT appointment. If you have not had prior permanent or probationary civil service status, you will be separated from state service. During this 12-month Limited Term assignment, you will receive full health, dental, and vision benefits! You will also earn State Service and accrue monthly leave credits. Working Conditions The office will be located in the Seal Beach or Santa Barbara office and must be able to travel up to 20% to attend site visits throughout the South Coast Region, including Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, and Orange Counties. Travel outside the region up to 5% will also be required. The position involves using a computer keyboard and Microsoft Office software for up to eight hours per day, as well as performing office tasks that require sitting, standing, and walking between locations. The role includes coordinating and participating in meetings and conference calls, attending in-person workgroups with stakeholders, and engaging with local, state, and federal agencies in the South Coast Region, as well as Regions 4 and 6. Field site visits will be necessary, and the incumbent must be able to walk on uneven, hilly terrain. As a condition of employment, the incumbent may be required to wear a uniform in accordance with CDFW's Operations Manual (Section 12901) during field surveys and public interactions, both within and outside the Region as directed by the supervisor. A valid driver's license is required travel and field site visits to remote or rural areas where alternative transportation is not feasible. Telework is up to the discretion and approval of the supervisor and will be consistent with current telework policies.
