Position Summary:
The Environmental Services Specialist supports district-wide custodial operations by ensuring consistent cleaning standards, effective training, proper management of supplies and equipment, and quality assurance through regular facility inspections. This position focuses on technical, operational, and quality support in alignment with departmental goals. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Custodial Supply Inventory Management Confirms monthly custodial supply orders with the custodial supplies' vendor and monitors deliveries to each site. Maintains accurate inventory records and tracks product usage trends. Assists with deliveries and coordinates supply distribution to school sites as needed. Identifies inventory shortages, overages, and usage concerns and communicates findings to the Environmental Services Manager. Ensures proper storage, labeling, and compliance with safety requirements and SDS documentation. Training & Staff Development Conducts custodial training for newly hired employees using materials and guidance provided by the custodial supplies vendor to ensure proper cleaning procedures, safety awareness, and departmental expectations. Provides retraining when performance issues are identified or when assigned by the Environmental Services Manager. Reinforces proper cleaning methods, chemical use, equipment operation, and safety protocols. Maintains accurate records of completed training sessions and retraining activities. Custodial Equipment Oversight Maintains an accurate inventory of custodial equipment district-wide. Coordinates equipment repairs and preventive maintenance through the CMMS (Incident IQ). Assists with troubleshooting equipment issues and works directly with vendors to resolve problems. Evaluates equipment condition and lifecycle and makes replacement recommendations to the Environmental Services Manager. Provides guidance on proper equipment use and care to reduce damage and downtime. Quality Assurance & Facility Inspections Conducts regular custodial inspections at school sites to evaluate cleanliness, safety, and alignment with established standards. Documents inspection results and submits reports with findings and improvement recommendations to the Environmental Services Manager. Submits work orders for deficiencies identified during inspections and assigns corrective actions to the appropriate Lead Custodian. Follows up on assigned corrective actions to confirm completion and effectiveness. Identifies recurring trends or deficiencies and recommends process improvements or retraining to the Environmental Services Manager. Communication & Coordination Meets regularly with the Environmental Services Manager to review equipment recommendations, recurring issues or findings from inspections, training or retraining expectations, and inventory management concerns. Provides timely communication to the Environmental Services Manager, Lead Custodians, or staff regarding inventory status, equipment issues, training or retraining needs, and inspection results or recommendations. Operational & Administrative Support Assists with work orders related to custodial equipment, access control fobs, inventory needs, and inspection-related deficiencies. Provides on-site support to custodial teams by assisting with troubleshooting and operational needs as needed. Oversees employee records in the time clock system from new hire onboarding through offboarding. Distributes access control fobs to employees as needed. Supports weekend and special projects, including deep cleaning, floor care, and facility preparation when required. Safety & Professional Standards Reinforces safety procedures, proper chemical handling, equipment operation, and custodial best practices. Upholds departmental values of professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and service excellence. Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment. Additional Responsibilities Performs other duties assigned by the Environmental Services Manager to support departmental and district needs. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Associate's degree or higher preferred Minimum of three (3) years of successful Lead Custodian experience; five (5) or more years of experience preferred. Valid Georgia driver's license and acceptable driving record. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Strong knowledge of custodial practices, cleaning standards, chemicals, and equipment. Strong organizational, inventory, and documentation skills. Ability to train staff using standardized materials and procedures. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently across multiple sites. Basic computer proficiency, including CMMS, timekeeping systems, and Microsoft Office.
