Environmental Planner / Hawaii

LOCATION
Honolulu, HI TYPE Direct Hire ID j-2817 The Environmental Planner will support regulatory permitting and compliance for a wide range of land development projects in Hawaii. The Planner will prepare permit applications, conduct environmental studies, support agency coordination, assist with public outreach, and collaborate with multidisciplinary technical teams. The Planner will also provide support to project managers and task lead the regulatory and permitting process. This is a dynamic role requiring strong communication, problem-solving, and project coordination skills to support the permitting of complex projects and having frequent and effective interaction with clients, regulatory agencies, other team members and the public.Main Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in environmental sciences, urban/regional planning, environmental policy, environmental studies, or a related field.
- 5+ years of relevant experience with environmental assessments and federal, state, and local regulatory compliance/permitting.
- Have an understanding of NEPA and state siting and permitting processes such as Hawaii Environmental Policy Act (HEPA).
- Have at least 3 years experience working in Hawaii.
- Have excellent research, analytical, writing, oral communication and organizational skills.
- Have the ability to work independently and to communicate clearly and work closely with team members located across other offices.
- Have strong task management skills in successfully scoping and managing project teams and deliverables.
- Experience in preparing and processing various county, state, and federal land permits as well as preparation of documents to meet the requirements of HEPA.
- Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project are necessary to perform the responsibilities of this position.
Have:
- Experience performing due diligence and permitting services for energy or other development projects that may also include mitigation plans, HCPs and other documents required under the Endangered Species Act and other environmental rules, regulations, and associated permitting.
- Led project development (i.e., work scopes, proposals and costs) and have strong project management skills in successfully scoping and managing project teams and deliverables.
- Developed permit compliance strategies
- Excellent agency and client relationships.
