Grasmick Education Building\r\n200\r\nWest Baltimore Street\r\nBaltimore, MD 21201\r\n Main Purpose of Job The\r\nCoordinator of Science and Environmental Literacy will support MSDE's effort in\r\nimplementing the Blueprint for Maryland's Future and its multi-year Strategic\r\nPlan. This position provides highly effective, evidence-based program and\r\ninitiative development and implementation leadership support aligned to the\r\nMaryland Next Generation Science Standards, Environmental Literacy Standards\r\nand Early Learning Standards to accelerate student achievement across local\r\neducation agencies (LEAs) and early learning environments. The position supports\r\nthe Director of Science to develop, facilitate, and assess the effectiveness of\r\nongoing, high-quality professional learning and technical assistance and works\r\nclosely with LEA staff, formal and informal environmental literacy educators,\r\nand institutes of higher learning to build the capacity to develop, interpret,\r\nand implement best in class science, environmental literacy programs and\r\ninitiatives, courses, instructional frameworks, curricula and assessments, and\r\ninnovations to accelerate student achievement, and narrow and close opportunity\r\nand achievement gaps for historically disadvantaged students.\r\nPOSITION DUTIES
Develops and provides high-quality,\r\nevidence-based professional learning and leadership support for schools, local\r\neducation agencies, institutes of higher education, and informal education\r\norganizations to effectively implement the Blueprint for Maryland's Future.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Supports the Director of Science in\r\n developing and facilitating high effective, evidence-based professional\r\n learning explicitly designed to accelerate student achievement, especially for\r\n under-performing schools across the state.\r\n Coordinates the development,\r\n implementation, and facilitation of high-quality, evidence-based professional\r\n learning, including in-person, virtual, and asynchronous formats.\r\n Demonstrates and applies knowledge of\r\n evidence-based science and environmental education strategies, content, lab\r\n safety practices, assessments, and pedagogy in the development of professional\r\n learning.�\r\n Supports and collaborates with MSDE\r\n Divisions and Offices on cross- functional initiatives and programs related to\r\n science and environmental literacy.\r\n Collaborates with communities and\r\n organizations to develop, implement, and analyze programs and strategies to\r\n scale students participation in STEM and environmental aligned college and\r\n career readiness pathways, such as through dual enrollment, advanced placement,\r\n International Baccalaureate, and early college high school programs.\r\n Ensures alignment of professional\r\n learning to Maryland standards, frameworks, policies, and regulations.\r\n Facilitates\r\n and manages data collection, program monitoring and implementation, continuous improvement, and engagement initiatives and\r\n special projects.\r\n Develops\r\n and implements evidence-based science and environmental literacy programs,\r\n initiatives, guidance, policy, high‑quality publications and technical assistance that\r\n communicate complex educational concepts\r\n and accelerate student achievement and district\r\n staff.\r\n Supports LEA educators, administrators\r\n by providing evidence-based technical assistance to support implementation of\r\n professional learning, instruction, assessments, and science and environmental\r\n literacy programs.\r\n Facilitates and manages data collection,\r\n program monitoring and implementation. continuous improvement, and engagement\r\n initiatives and special projects.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION
A Master's degree or the equivalent of 36 credit hours\r\nof post-baccalaureate coursework in education, education administration, professional\r\nlearning, curriculum, school leadership or a related area from an accredited\r\ncollege or university.\r\n\r\n\r\nEXPERIENCE:
Five\r\nyears of administrative or teaching experience in managing and leading Science,\r\nEnvironmental, and/or STEM programs or related programs in prekindergarten through\r\n12 settings.\r\n\r\n\r\nNotes:
\r\n\r\n\r\n Candidates\r\n may substitute a bachelor's degree with 7 years of the specified content\r\n experience to satisfy the minimum qualifications noted above.\r\n Candidates\r\n may substitute the possession of a Doctorate degree from an accredited college\r\n or university in a field related to the position option for one year of the\r\n required experience.\r\n The\r\n required field of education and experience are unique for each option and are\r\n established by MSDE in accordance with Education Article, Section 2-104 of the\r\n Annotated Code of Maryland.� The specific\r\n education and experience qualifications for each position are on record in the\r\n Human Resource Management Branch of the Division of Business Services.\r\n Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military\r\n service experience as a commissioned officer in Education Program\r\n classifications or Education Program specialty codes in the Education field of\r\n work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.\r\n\r\n\r\nSELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
One year of professional\r\nteaching experience in a PreK-12 Science and/or Environmental Literacy Education\r\nProgram.\r\nDESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants\r\nwho possess the following preferred qualification(s). Please include clear and\r\nspecific information on your application regarding your qualifications.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Experience with teaching and\r\n evaluating Science and Environmental Literacy programs and curriculum.�\r\n Experience integrating college and career readiness\r\n pathways, standards, trends, regulations, policies, and issues related to\r\n science fields of study.\r\n Experience implementing,\r\n monitoring, and evaluating Science education programs and facilitating professional\r\n learning at the district and/or school based level.\r\n Experience\r\n developing and producing high-quality written reports, guidance documents,\r\n or public-facing communications.\r\n \r\n\r\n\r\nSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
