BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION
This is professional services and scientific work of a supervisory nature in environmental protection, including program management and performing complex technical evaluations. This position is responsible for administering the pretreatment program for the State of Maine, performing the duties of a compliance inspector, and supervising two compliance inspector positions, one overboard discharge inspector position, and two seasonal conservation aides.The specific duties include:
Determining compliance with licenses issued under the Maine Pollutant Discharge Elimination System and Waste Discharge License programs. Coordinating with permitting staff on compliance requirements for new permits. Conducting compliance inspections and oversight of 11 community approved industrial pretreatment programs and 13 individual industrial user facilities. Conducting compliance inspections Participating as a presenter at various conferences and meetings. Coordinating enforcement activities with enforcement staff. Representing the CMRO office compliance staff at management meetings. Managing progress with work plans Participating in planning and development meetings. This position involves substantial field work and may include out-of-state travel. An eight (8) year combination of education and/or experience in environmental science or related area which includes at least two (2) years of supervisory or program management/administration experience. Qualifying education must include at least 15 credit hours of science or engineering coursework. Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and experience: Experience/knowledge of the design and operations of wastewater treatment facilities. Experience/knowledge of industrial pretreatment Experience/knowledge of industrial facility wastewater treatment and processes. Knowledge of water quality laws and regulations. Knowledge of water pollution issues and science. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and manage multiple projects. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Demonstrated leadership in developing high functioning teams. Experience in technical writing. 30 credit hours of STEM course work or an advanced degree in science or engineering. Currently, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship orSTEM OPT
