The Specialist Remediation manages a portfolio of sites within CPKC's Environmental Remediation (Environmental Accrual) Program, identifying, assessing, and reporting environmental risks. This role designs and implements remedial strategies in alignment with regulatory requirements and CPKC's 10‑year strategic plan, while supporting remediation and risk evaluations tied to negotiations, litigation, and land transactions. The Specialist also contributes to the growth of CPKC's remediation programs and services and is accountable for safety, environmental performance, productivity, and financial stewardship. This position may be based in Kansas City or in the Southern United States where CPKC has offices.POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
Manage a portfolio of sites within the Environmental Remediation Program, leading remedial strategy design and implementation aligned with the 10‑year strategic plan Identify, assess, and report environmental risks and liabilities associated with contaminated and legacy sites Lead environmental risk evaluations and develop remediation strategies to support land transactions, negotiations, litigation, and land monetization initiatives Provide environmental expertise and guidance to internal stakeholders, senior leadership, legal teams, and real estate functions Manage environmental consultants and contractors, including selection, direction, performance oversight, and contract administration in collaboration with cross‑functional partners Oversee remediation budgets, environmental accruals, cost forecasts, and contractor expenditures to ensure financial discipline Implement and administer the Environmental Accrual Accounting Policy to ensure Finance and SOX compliance, including accrual recommendations, annual remediation planning, monthly reserve reporting, and environmental data analysis Develop and maintain reporting frameworks and key environmental metrics to communicate risk, performance, and program status to senior leadership and stakeholders Serve as the primary point of contact and representative for CPKC with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies, exercising sound judgment in regulatory discussions and negotiationsPOSITION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Chemistry, or related discipline Minimum 3 years of related experience in environmental science or engineering Progressive experience in environmental remediation and risk management within industrial, transportation, or other regulated environments Working knowledge of U.S. federal and state environmental regulations (e.g., Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Emergency Planning and Community Right‑to‑Know Act (EPCRA), Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Experience managing environmental remediation projects and environmental liabilities Demonstrated ability to manage consultants, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams Experience working with regulatory agencies and supporting negotiations, litigation, or land transactions Strong project management, analytical, and communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications Bilingual (English/Spanish) is considered an assetWHAT CPKC HAS TO OFFER
