Varies Brief Job Overview/Summary The Professional Services Specialist 3, Geospatial Team Leader & Environmental Specialist (13M) is a Grant Funded position that is anticipated to start on Monday, July 20, 2026. The Geospatial Team Leader & Environmental Specialist (PSS3) will report directly to the Interim Executive Director of the Coastal Research Center and the Dean of the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. As requested, they will represent and act on behalf of the Interim Executive and Project Managers. Duties entail supervision of day-to-day geospatial operations, managing a growing number of junior staff to ensure timely and accurately completed project reports and deliverables. The Geospatial Team Leader will assist the CRC Interim Executive Director, Project Development and Implementation Specialist, and Hydrographic & Geotechnical Coordinator (Project Managers) in academic leadership and financial management of the grants and contracts obtained by the CRC. The Geospatial Team Leader may be assigned Project Management duties. The Geospatial Team Leader will provide organization and guidance to new and existing research projects and direct junior staff so that work proceeds in the most efficient manner.
Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Interim Executive Director or the
Project Development and Implementation Specialist, or Hydrographic & Geotechnical Coordinator:
Oversee multiple research project GIS-based tasks to be certain that they are being performed and completed in a timely manner and as required. This includes organizing a team of junior staff and/or students to assist in completing the task Participate in development and implementation of policies and alternative procedures to improve performance and meet objectives Consult Interim Executive Director on any unusual problems that may arise and work to resolve issues within the program while maintaining appropriate confidentiality Work directly with the CRC Interim Executive Director and other Geospatial Analysts in identifying new research projects, generating cost estimates and securing new grant funding through federal, state, local & private sources Undertake principal investigator (PI) duties for special research project awards and guide each segment of the project through the process of advising and working with the other employees responsible for the completion of the work on the project Check and review the data collection methodology, the validity of that information and the means used to process it into deliverables to the clients Work with NJ State and Federal agencies to develop Quality Assurance & Quality Control objectives under which the CRC performs selected GIS-based tasks for these agencies Be the major source of developing public relations material, verbal and written presentations of completed work and research to various conferences, project meetings with clients and other avenues designed to generate additional project work by compiling, summarizing, and analyzing statistical and other data to make conclusions and recommendations Attend key meetings; meet with clients and appropriate New Jersey political leaders and municipal officials Provide requested information to those governmental officials so that they can make the best use of limited resources and focus attention on the proper issues facing the NJ coastal community Assist with CRC field work, when needed
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in Marine Science, Environmental Studies, Geography, Data Science or related field from an accredited college or university 2 years of GIS experience in an institution of higher education, education, or other field that is directly related to the functions of the position •
NOTE:
Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute required experience on a year-for-year basis (30 credit hours is considered one year of college.) A Ph.D. or an Ed.

D. degree may be substituted for two years of the required experience .
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. GIS Certificate, or GISP (or working toward certification)
