Job Description

The Town of East Hampton - Environmental Technician in the Natural Resources Department An employee in the position is responsible for assisting the staff with ongoing and new initiatives including Water Quality Improvement Initiatives. The qualified individual will assist department staff with data collection, field work, monitoring activities and preparing reports and developing habitat and water quality improvement projects. The Natural Resources Department staff will play a pivotal role in developing initiatives promoting nonpoint source abatement and preventing groundwater pollution. New watershed-based initiatives will be developed to build partnerships and enhance management of water resources at both the county and local level through collaborative projects.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
May assist in the preparation of detailed reports and recommendations resulting from field work or special projects if it is directly related to the program. Respond to citizen and town complaints about conditions which affect the environment. Compile inventories of environmental resources, important ecosystems, hydrology, flora, and fauna. Seek grant opportunities for Habitat Restoration and Water Quality Improvement Projects Knowledge of the principles and techniques of compiling, organizing, and interpreting data to determine the impact of changes in the environment; knowledge of the current principles and techniques used to manage and preserve the environment; knowledge of the natural and biological sciences in relation to the analysis of environmental conditions; ability to write and present comprehensive reports on environmental quality and the impact of governmental actions and decisions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, professionals in the scientific community, representatives of community groups and the general public; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, and the hourly rate of pay is $30.2279 ($62,874.03 annually) with benefits; including paid vacation, enrollment in the New York State and Local Retirement System, health care, and dental and vision coverage. Minimum qualifications;
EITHER:
a) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree in mathematics, one of the natural or physical sciences, environmental studies or a related field; or b) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY state with a Bachelor's Degree and one (1) year of experience in environmental protection activities.
