Job Title:
Environmental Coordinator Job Description The Environmental Coordinator serves as a vital bridge between field personnel and regulatory agencies, ensuring environmental compliance across construction and remediation projects. This role focuses on maintaining accurate environmental records, updating construction site databases, coordinating hazardous material reporting, and supporting field teams so they can safely and effectively follow environmental regulations. Responsibilities Act as a liaison between field personnel and regulatory agencies, ensuring clear communication and consistent environmental compliance on construction and remediation projects. Update and maintain construction site databases with accurate environmental information and documentation. Coordinate hazardous material reporting, including waste labeling and waste characterization, to ensure alignment with RCRA regulations. Monitor permit expiration dates for waste transfer notes and discharge consents, ensuring no work proceeds under expired permits. Support field ("boots on the ground") personnel by helping them understand and follow environmental regulations and company procedures. Organize and maintain safety data sheets (SDS) and coordinate spill kit replenishment to support safe field operations. Manage and organize environmental records, including audit reports, inspection files, and project diaries, to maintain a clear, accessible compliance history. Assist in documenting significant environmental compliance issues, including the results of inspections that reveal noncompliance with cleanup orders or other regulatory requirements. Provide administrative support related to regulatory reporting, environmental safety, and compliance documentation. Gather and manage data related to environmental performance, remediation activities, and compliance tracking. Support basic office management functions related to environmental projects, including coordination with payroll and project administration as needed. Essential Skills Experience with regulatory compliance and environmental compliance, particularly in construction or remediation environments. Strong data management skills, including accurate recordkeeping and document organization. Experience providing administrative support for environmental, regulatory, or construction projects. Familiarity with regulatory reporting and environmental safety practices. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. At least 1 year of office management experience. Entry-level understanding of environmental remediation project compliance, including record maintenance, permit management, and regulatory notification. Knowledge of safety procedures and OSHA-related safety concepts. Awareness of environmental health and environmental safety principles. Ability to coordinate with payroll and support basic administrative payroll-related tasks. Ability to gather, track, and interpret data related to remediation and compliance activities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with QuickBooks for project or office financial support is a plus. Familiarity with Procore or similar construction/project management software is beneficial. Experience with Peachtree (Sage) accounting software is a nice to have. Exposure to HR processes or support tasks is an advantage. Hands-on field operations experience in construction or environmental remediation is a plus. Interest in growing into an Assistant Project Manager (APM) or Project Manager (PM) role on larger projects. Motivation to build a career in environmental compliance, construction, or remediation. Work Environment This position is primarily office-based, working with computers and standard office software such as Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams to manage documentation, databases, and communication. The role supports field operations but is focused on administrative, coordination, and compliance tasks in an office setting. The organization offers a consistent backlog of work and a clear entry point into environmental and construction project coordination, with opportunities to grow into larger project roles such as Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager within a professional, mission-driven environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Syracuse, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $38.00/hr.
