Full Job Description Position Overview :
Big Bend Environmental Consulting (BBEC) has a rare and exciting opportunity for an ecologist/environmental scientist/biologist field person. Do you love nature and being outside? If you are not afraid to get your hands dirty to assess soils, plants, hydrology, and other natural features we would love to interview you. Someone who has a cross disciplinary background in the natural sciences is ideal. Environmental science, biology, botany, soil science, geology, general science backgrounds and more would be great. All training is provided. Fresh graduates or career changers welcome! Mostly remote with somewhat flexible daytime hours. Daily onsite work is done mostly within a 2 hour radius of Tallahassee. Tallahassee or nearby base would be ideal. Lots of freedom and independence in this position. P osition
Duties/Responsibilities:
Typical days consist of driving a route to complete several jobs at different locations throughout North Florida. Some days you may be on the road part or all of the day, others you may be at your home office/remote site. At each field site, you will complete environmental field work typically consisting of soil, vegetation, hydrology, and whole landscape analysis. You will be outside at each site, sometimes in remote areas, and each job is typically takes less than an hour to complete. Other light office work, reports, entering data, will be required.
Position Requirements:
Your days will sometimes include a lot of driving in your own vehicle (gas reimbursed at state rate and reliable light truck or car/suv that can travel on dirt roads and occasional offroad is required), stomping through the woods, field work and recording data, interacting with property owners and communicating with team members. Some office work required. Position is remote with the majority of the work centered within a 2 hour radius from Tallahassee. Some days are long, some are short. Must be adaptable, friendly, cooperative, and willing to learn.
Position Qualifications:
At a minimum, applicants must have graduated (or expect to graduate soon) from an accredited 4-year college or university with a degree or major coursework (30+ credits) in environmental science, environmental health, public health, or a physical or biological science. Unfortunately, there are no exceptions as licensure depends on these qualifications. Current Certified Environmental Health Professional license holders (CEHP) encouraged to apply! Good communication skills essential! You must be a good communicator: able to text, email, and call - respond and proactively communicate quickly to get the jobs done efficiently and effectively. Knowledge of environmental and general sciences and desire to work outside in the elements is needed. This could be great opportunity for the right person not wanting to be stuck in an office and looking for field work.
Position Remuneration:
Pay specifics to be discussed. Great starting salary with plenty of opportunity to increase, paid vacation/sick, retirement plan and health insurance offered. Successful candidate will be a hired at lower salary until fully trained and licensed (approximately 90 days). Great earning potential. CEHP license holders will receive a sign-on bonus.
