Department Overview Proudly serving as Minnesota's children's hospital since 1924, Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, is the eighth-largest pediatric health care organization in the U.S. Each year, Children's provides care through nearly 13,000 inpatient visits and more than 200,000 emergency room and other outpatient visits. An independent, not-for-profit health care provider, Children's has 319 staffed hospital beds and services available in all major pediatric specialties: emergency care; newborn and pediatric intensive care; outpatient and inpatient surgery; diagnostic services, including radiology and laboratory; and special programs in the areas of respiratory, cardiology, cancer, premature birth, adolescent development, child abuse, and epilepsy. In addition to our Minneapolis and St. Paul Campuses, Children's also includes Children's West, a pediatric care center in Minnetonka offering same-day surgery as well as diagnostic, rehabilitative, and developmental outpatient services; Children's - Roseville, an outpatient pediatric rehabilitation center; and Children's Clinics - Woodwinds, pediatric specialty clinics at the Woodwinds Health Campus in Woodbury. will be responsible for providing technical expertise to promote and maintain a safety healthy and secure environment of care at Children's Minnesota (Children's MN). This individual will work with staff within all levels of the organization to support our ESS program and organizational ESS goals. The role will help ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, such as OSHA, EPA, MPCA, local county regulations, and promote a proactive environmental and safety culture across Children's MN. The role requires a detail-oriented person with strong analytical skills and a passion for creating a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.

No Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain environmental and safety policies to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Inspect workplaces, identify hazards, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Provide safety training to employees and management.
  • Investigate incidents to determine root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Analyze safety data, track KPIs, and report findings.
  • Coordinate emergency response plans and drills.
  • Manage waste programs according to regulations.
  • Collaborate with other teams to integrate regulatory and best management practices.
Education:
  • Bachelor's or Associates degree in a relevant field such as Environmental Science or Occupational Health and Safety.
Experience:
  • Three (3) years experience in environmental, health, safety and sustainability, preferably in a health facility setting.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, MPCA, DOT and other local regulations.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Relevant certifications are beneficial.
  • Proficiency with EHS software.
  • Experience with workers' compensation is a plus.

  • Ability to travel to all Children's MN facilities across the Twin Cities depending on need
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, when needed
  • Familiarity with and commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles in partnership design and execution
  • Strategic and systems-level thinker with the ability to see the big picture while providing detailed execution
  • Skilled in collaborating across matrixed environments, with the ability to influence without direct authority
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills; capable of engaging senior leaders and external contractors in high-impact conversations
  • Proficient in data collection and analysis utilizing the Microsoft Office suite of products

Annual salaries displayed are based on full-time employment (40 standard hrs per week). Annual salaries for part-time positions will be prorated based on the employee's scheduled weekly hours in relation to the full-time standard. When determining individual pay rates, we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, internal equity and organizational needs. In addition to your salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night, weekend or on-call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.
