Full job description Job Overview We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Peer Specialist to join our mental health and behavioral health team in Taylor Public Library in Taylor, TX. The Peer Specialist will leverage lived experience to support individuals navigating mental health challenges, substance use recovery, and behavioral health issues. This role is vital in fostering hope, empowerment, and recovery through peer mentoring, crisis intervention, and supportive counseling. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to peer-centered care, and familiarity with community connections. Responsibilities Provide peer support and mentorship to individuals experiencing mental health or substance use challenges, promoting recovery and resilience through group supports and individual connections Assist people in developing coping strategies through motivational interviewing and behavioral health techniques. Inform individuals of available mental health and substance use service options, while promoting the use of natural supports and resources within the community Provide referrals to partner agencies when stated needs fall outside of the peer role. Advocate for a person's needs within the community and connect them with appropriate resources. Requirements Lived experience with mental health recovery or substance use recovery is essential; certification as a Peer Specialist is preferred. Familiarity with community supports for mental health counseling, addiction counseling, and social work principles. Strong mentoring skills with the ability to motivate and empower people. Excellent communication skills with a compassionate approach. Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team environment.Job Type:
