Job Description

I. Job Summary At WM, early career talent is more than the future of our business—they're a vital part of our present. WM's Summer Internship Program is a 12-week paid experience designed to bridge classroom learning with real-world application. Interns are empowered from day one to contribute meaningfully, explore new areas of the business, and grow their professional skillsets in a supportive, purpose-driven environment. The Internship Experience As a WM Intern, you won't be sitting on the sidelines, you'll be in the mix. You will work alongside experienced professionals on real projects that make an impact for WM. You'll get real-world experience in key aspects of our business, including a meaningful project you'll own and present to senior leaders at the end of the summer, while discovering what we're all about. Outside of your core work, you'll join skill-building workshops, connect with leaders through executive roundtables, and build community with fellow interns from across the country. About the Environmental Legacy Management Group (ELMG) Team This internship is part of the ELMG crew—a team known for its diversity, innovative thinking, collaborative spirit, and commitment to sustainability. You'll get to explore environmental operations, data analytics, and project optimization, learn how things work behind the scenes, and help WM drive purpose in everything we do. Whether you're diving into data, pitching ideas, or helping make things run smoother, what you do will matter—and we want to hear what you think. This intern will assist District Managers and Landfill Operations Managers on various projects. II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Uses problem solving skills, determines problems, and understand fundamental parts of the problem. Conducts analysis as directed and prepares and delivers insights and recommendations based on analysis. Synthesizes findings and draws conclusions from analyses and makes oral/written recommendations to supervisor and/or manager. Executes tasks directly related to functional projects and/or process improvements. Communicates issues and roadblocks related to areas of responsibility. Please note that you're expected to do up to 20% of travel in relation to your work. III. Qualifications A. Required Qualifications Interns must have a high school diploma or GED (accredited) and be pursuing or have recently completed a bachelor's degree (accredited) in a field of study relevant to the internship. B. Preferred Qualifications Previous internship or work experience in environmental science, engineering, or waste management. Familiarity with data analysis tools and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Willingness to work in both office and field environments IV.
