Full Job Description Job Description:
PPM Consultants, Inc. (PPM) is seeking candidates for a full-time Environmental Field Technician position based in our Birmingham, Alabama office. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in environmental services, field operations, and hands-on technical work supporting environmental assessment, remediation, and compliance projects throughout Alabama and the southeastern United States. The ideal candidate is dependable, mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and comfortable working outdoors in a fast-paced field environment. This position requires regular field work and travel, including occasional overnight stays, to support projects throughout the region. PPM is willing to train motivated individuals with relevant field experience, mechanical aptitude, or backgrounds in technical trades. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Collect air, water, soil, groundwater, and sediment samples in accordance with established procedures Gather field data necessary to evaluate environmental conditions and support project objectives Perform routine operation, maintenance, and monitoring of environmental remediation systems Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues associated with remediation equipment and field systems Conduct groundwater monitoring, system inspections, and equipment performance evaluations Oversee subcontractors and coordinate field activities to ensure project requirements are met Conduct environmental inspections and assessments at commercial, industrial, and retail facilities Assist with regulatory compliance activities, data collection, and environmental reporting Accurately document field activities, observations, measurements, and sampling results Safely operate tools, equipment, and company vehicles while adhering to company health and safety procedures Travel to project sites as required and support multiple projects concurrently PPM offers competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, professional development opportunities, and the chance to work on a diverse range of environmental projects alongside experienced industry professionals. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED required Valid driver's license with a good driving record and ability to meet company driving requirements Willingness and ability to travel for project assignments, including occasional overnight travel Ability to perform field work in varying weather conditions and on active project sites Ability to lift, carry, and operate equipment weighing 50 pounds or more Strong work ethic, dependability, and attention to detail Good communication and record-keeping skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Mechanical aptitude and ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and field equipment Commitment to following company health and safety procedures Preferred Qualifications Previous environmental field experience, including sampling, monitoring, inspection, or remediation activities Experience in mechanical trades, industrial maintenance, construction, utilities, equipment operation, or related technical fields Experience troubleshooting mechanical or electrical equipment Basic knowledge of environmental science, environmental regulations, or remediation systems Current 40-Hour
