Job Title:
Environmental Field Technician Job Description The Environmental Field Technician performs hands-on fieldwork across a range of monitoring and inspection projects, focusing on the installation, calibration, and maintenance of flow monitoring equipment in sewer and wastewater collection systems. This role combines mechanical work, environmental field activities, and data collection to support accurate monitoring and reporting, while upholding strict safety and quality standards. Responsibilities Install flow monitors and related equipment within sewer lines and wastewater collection systems. Perform hydraulic calibration of flow monitors and verify proper operation in the field. Collect field data, review it for accuracy, and document findings according to established procedures. Troubleshoot monitoring equipment and systems, diagnose issues, and perform necessary repairs. Conduct inspections of environmental field sites, including sewer lines, water mains, and related infrastructure. Maintain accurate, legible, and organized records in accordance with all quality work instructions and company procedures. Operate, inspect, and maintain vehicles and field equipment to ensure safety, mechanical soundness, and reliable operation. Adhere to all safety procedures and company policies, including confined space entry and rescue protocols. Work effectively as part of a team to complete field assignments safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of quality. Travel to various job sites as required and work overtime hours when necessary to meet project needs. Essential Skills Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with tools, equipment, and monitoring devices. Good computer skills for data collection, review, and documentation. Effective communication skills for working with team members and reporting field findings. Attention to detail to ensure accurate installation, calibration, and data recording. Manual dexterity and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in the field. Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather and environmental conditions. Physical and cognitive ability to perform confined space entry in wastewater collection systems and participate in rescue operations when necessary. Ability to function effectively in a team environment and support shared goals. High school diploma or GED required. Valid driver's license with an outstanding driving record. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in an environmental field or a similar discipline preferred. Experience in environmental fieldwork, water main or sewer inspection, or related construction or general labor is beneficial. Experience with troubleshooting and repair of mechanical or monitoring systems is an advantage. OSHA 10-Hour certification. Confined Space certification. NASCO certifications. Strong commitment to safety and adherence to established policies and procedures. Interest in ongoing professional development and technical skill growth. Work Environment This role is primarily field-based and involves working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. The Environmental Field Technician regularly works in confined spaces, including wastewater collection systems and sewer lines, following strict safety and entry procedures. Typical shifts are 10 hours per day, scheduled Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday, for a 40-hour workweek, with additional overtime as required. The position involves frequent travel to different job sites and daily use of company vehicles and specialized monitoring equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hanover, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
