Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Environmental Field Technician position applies practical field experience and working knowledge of environmental processes to support site investigations, regulatory compliance, and remediation activities. This role involves independent fieldwork, including groundwater and soil sampling, contractor oversight, and data collection at environmentally impacted sites. The position requires familiarity with applicable regulatory frameworks, with preference given to experience with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission Petroleum Storage Tank Division, and emphasizes maintaining safe work practices, proper sample handling, and accurate documentation to support environmental compliance and remediation objectives.INTER-RELATIONSHIPS
Employees, Managers, and Supervisors throughout the corporation, and various external customers, vendors, consultants, and governmental regulatory officials.MAJOR TASKS
Plan, coordinate, and execute field investigations and data collection activities in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations. Develop, purge, and sample groundwater monitoring wells using accepted industry practices. Collect soil, groundwater, and soil gas samples, including installation of sub-slab vapor points. Maintain sample integrity and documentation in accordance with strict chain-of-custody protocols. Perform elevation surveying and documentation for monitoring wells and site features. Conduct remedial activities at environmentally impacted sites, including support of excavation and soil management efforts. Provide field oversight and coordination of subcontractors, including drillers, surveyors, and remediation contractors. Perform non-hazardous waste characterization and disposal activities in accordance with regulatory requirements. Operate, maintain, and calibrate environmental monitoring and sampling equipment. Utilize hand tools and small equipment (e.g., hand augers) for subsurface soil and environmental sampling. Assist with site inspections, assessments, and documentation to support regulatory compliance and reporting. Collect accurate, detailed field data and maintain organized field logs, notes, and photographic documentation. Adhere to company health and safety protocols and maintain a safe work environment at all times. Support preparation of field reports, figures, and data summaries using Microsoft Office Suite. Travel as required to project sites, including out-of-state assignments.JOB SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Working knowledge of environmental field sampling methods, including groundwater, soil, and soil gas sampling. Ability to work independently in field settings and make sound decisions with limited supervision. Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately collect, document, and manage field data. Familiarity with chain-of-custody procedures and proper sample handling protocols. Ability to operate, maintain, and calibrate environmental sampling and monitoring equipment. Basic surveying skills (e.g., measuring elevations, GPS data collection). Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) for data management and reporting. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple field tasks. Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members, contractors, and project managers. The Environmental Field Technician position requires the ability to safely perform physically demanding tasks in field environments. Work conditions may include exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, noise, and environmental hazards typical of construction or remediation sites. Physical requirements include standing, walking, and working on uneven terrain for extended periods; lifting and carrying equipment up to 50 pounds; and performing tasks requiring manual dexterity, such as operating sampling equipment and hand tools. The position may require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, and the ability to comply with all health and safety requirements. Travel, including overnight stays, may be required. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Topographic in office Standard business hours is Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm. The specific schedule for this role will be based on location and department.WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE
