Opportunities to Contribute Assists as directed by Project management, maintenance, operation, calibration and repair of electronic and electromechanical scientific and laboratory oceanographic equipment at the GERG facility for use in operational field projects (high frequency radar, autonomous vehicles, buoys). Assists project management and senior technicians in the preparation of equipment documentation and operations manuals. Troubleshoots new and existing instrumentation at GERG as directed. Engages with third-party technical support and venders to find solutions and reduce operational downtime. Participates in operational research field work (high frequency radar sites, potentially at sea for autonomous vehicle or mooring deployments). Works with project management and senior scientific leadership to maintain accurate inventory of oceanographic equipment (readiness, condition, quantity). Assists with disposal and surplus of outdated and non-useable equipment.
Salary:
Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.Special Note :
Candidate may need to work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends. Travel is required (to visit field installations).Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in environmental field or equivalent combination of education and experience One year of relevant experience Ability to go to field facilities (potentially at sea or remote land-based stations) up to 15 days per year. Ability to lift heavy objects. Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat. Ability to operate industrial equipment (i.e., forklift, trucks, trailers, small vessels). Opportunity to travel to industrial training and workshop (when funds and availability allow). A well-qualified candidate may also possess: Basic understanding of electronic components (resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors). Familiarity with soldering and assembling PCB components. Knowledge of standard laboratory and industrial safety procedures. Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Understanding of principals of environmental field work and measurement systems. Evidence of effective oral and written communication skills. What you need to do Apply!
