UPW/IWT Critical Work Technician
JOB DESCRIPTION
Guided by a belief in extensive data analysis and a commitment to collaborative global relationships, the Ultra-Pure Water (UPW) and Industrial Wastewater (IWT) team is responsible for providing continuous, safe and high quality utilities to our Fab. At our water and wastewater plants on the Samsung Taylor Semiconductor campus, our Operations team's drive for sustainability and operational excellence is balanced by our need to adopt tomorrow's technologies to ensure plant resilience, environmental stewardship, and the safety of our staff. As a Critical Work Technician for our 24/7 Operations team, you will be responsible for executing critical Grade A and Grade B step plans with precision and strict adherence to safety and quality standards. This role involves performing detailed technical procedures, ensuring compliance with operational protocols, and maintaining documentation for each step. In addition to the critical work, your role will include ensuring the reliable, safe, and timely replacement of critical equipment consumables including but not limited to: Reverse Osmosis(RO)membranes, Ultrafilters, Activated Carbon, Membrane Bioreactors(MBR)modules, Biological Nutrient Removers(BNR)components, Ion Exchange vessels and Polisher Resin—in ultrapure water and industrial wastewater treatment systems, thereby maintaining system performance, product quality, environmental compliance, and operational continuity. However, essential functions are as follows: Key role in supporting production efficiency and product integrity through accurate, timely completion of critical work grade non-standard work packages. Perform scheduled and condition-based replacement of critical equipment consumables. Utilize portable instrumentation to verify system recovery and water quality. Prevent system downtime or failures. Maintain spare part inventories, request replacements, and assist in managing consumable lifecycle tracking. Conduct back-flushing procedures and confirm particle retention performance. Prevent contamination of downstream polishing equipment Perform and record analytical trends to track performance and determine replacement timing.Teamwork and Communication:
able to work well in a team environment and effectively communicate throughout organization Respond to equipment/system failures and performs initial troubleshooting. Creates, maintains, and add improvements to operational SOP's. Participate in continuous training to stay current with SOPs, system changes, and safety procedures. Creates, maintains, and adds improvements to the operations certification system. Competencies/Experience Needed Strong understanding of municipal and Industrial Wastewater treatment processes Technical/Mechanical aptitude for disassembling, replacing and reassembling components Proficient in using hand tools, torque wrenches, fittings and valves Must be able to recognize hazards and follow safety protocol Ability to read and use complicated P&IDs Understand the function of basic system equipment such as: transfer valves, pumps, hydraulic systems, and high-pressure air systems Typing skills with minimum 15 wpm Stay vigilant of ongoing training and certifications to keep up with regulations and best practices Knowledge of health and safety regulations Knowledge of basic record keeping techniques Work independently Meet schedules and timelines Effective communication skills with internal and external customers Excellent organizational skills, ability to assess situations and set priorities Strong problem-solving ability Skilled inMS Office:
Excel, Word, PowerPoint Flexible, Adaptable and team oriented Work Environment All work is performed in an industrial environment. Physical Demands Physically intensive role, requiring lifting up to >50 lbs, climbing ladders, and working in confined or wet spaces. Able to stand and/or walk for 10+ hrs daily, able to climb stairs and ladders May perform repetitive hand and wrist motions and may sometimes have to twist and bend body Vision - May be exposed to yellow lights, blinking lights Able to discern audible alarms Potential to work with materials which contain hazardous chemicals Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Employees assigned to a 1 st Shift schedule work a 9-hour shifts, 5 days a week, Monday-Friday. The 1 st Shift position begins at 7:00am and ends at 4:00pm each scheduled day. Travel No overnight travel is expected for this position. Some occasional local day travel may be necessary. Required Education and Experience High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or vocational training in water treatment, mechanical systems, or industrial maintenance preferred.Experience:
Mechanical or Industrial Maintenance Experience in UPW or industrial wastewater treatment operations. Familiarity with handling and replacing filtration membranes, resins, and biological components. Experience in semiconductor, cleanroom or high-purity environments preferred. Additional Eligibility Qualifications None required for this position . Computer ‑ Based Work & Technical Proficiency - The role involves extensive use of computers for data entry, documentation, analysis, and internal communication. Candidates must be comfortable and proficient in the full suite of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneNote, etc.) and able to learn new office applications quickly. - Familiarity with enterprise CMMS (Computer‑Aided Maintenance Management System) software and Confluence is required for daily task management, issue tracking, and collaboration. Associates or better in Mechanical Systems. Associates or better in Water Resources Engineering or related field.
