Job Summary:
Is responsible for conducting system-wide surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HAI) using nationally accepted definitions i.e. National Health Safety Network (NHSN) criteria and reporting HAIs and IP related measures to NHSN to meet regulatory and facility-specific reporting requirements.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
Associate's Degree in Nursing or Public Health or related field or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required Two years' of experience in healthcare associated infection surveillance using NHSN definitions: Required Prior experience with surveillance systems (e.g., Epic, VigiLanz, Theradoc, or comparable):
Preferred Licenses/Certifications:
Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC): Preferred Certified Infection Control (CIC):
Required Essential Functions:
Assists system and local leadership in leading the HAI surveillance efforts for NHSN reporting across multiple sites. Serves as a surveillance resource and consultant for local IPs. Conducts daily electronic surveillance using EHR and infection prevention software and identifies healthcare-associated infections, and IP related measures using NHSN criteria per NHSN facility reporting plan. Ensures timely and accurate reporting of HAIs, IP related measures and denominator data to NHSN. Maintains facility-specific database for all HAIs in alignment with NHSN reporting plan. Assists system leadership in HAI surveillance related quality improvement initiatives focusing on reduction of HAIs. Assists local IPs in HAI validation requests by local, state or federal agencies. Ensures all HAIs are reported to NHSN in compliance with required reporting deadlines. Stays current on NHSN definitions and reporting requirements. Collaborates with other IPs to promote infection prevention and improved outcomes. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
