GENERAL SUMMARY
Under minimal supervision, but according to established policies and procedures, evaluates and provides for the needs of the professional staff in the areas of Quality and Infection Control. Providing support for patient safety by preventing the transmission of infectious diseases, the hand hygiene program offers education and monitoring of hand hygiene performance for clinical staff.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Interacts and communicates with designated supervisor to coordinate and integrate components of the infection control program. Completes regular rounds throughout hospital to observe hand hygiene practices in a clinical setting. Performs direct observation of patient care and support staff to evaluate for completion of proper hand hygiene requirements following established policies and procedures. Submits data collected for compilation and feedback to department. Mobile technology preferred (e.g. cell phone, iPad). Identifies and reports significant observations that can adversely affect patient outcomes or employee safety to the appropriate Infection Control Supervisor/Quality Leadership. Advances knowledge by completing educational sessions as needed and annual training. Assumes additional responsibilities and performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/EXEPERIENCE REQUIRED
Enrollment in college/university in undergraduate or graduate courses. Preferred fields of study; Public Health or related field, Epidemiology, Health Administration, or Nursing. Ability to work independently and adhere to schedule with minimum supervision. Basic computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office products (Word and Excel), Outlook, and Survey Monkey. Basic proficiency in medical terminology and a clear understanding of medical confidentiality.
