Job Description

Position Summary:
The primary purpose of this position is to plan, organize, develop, coordinate, and direct the facility infection prevention and control program and its activities in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern such programs and as directed by the Director of Nursing and the Infection Prevention and Control Committee. Functions within the scope of the state's Nurse Practice Act for their licensure.
Performance Requirements:
Maintains a facility-wide system for the prevention, identification, investigation, and control of infections of residents, staff, and visitors, including surveillance to identify possible communicable disease or infections before they spread. Serves as a member of and reviews infection reports, analyzes data, and makes recommendations to the Infection Control Committee or QAPI Committee and the An?bio?c Stewardship Committee. Co-chairs the An?bio?c Stewardship Committee. Partners with the facility medical director, director of nursing, and consultant pharmacist to implement and maintain an an?microbial stewardship program to ensure appropriate an?bio?c utilization. Conducts routine rounding to assist in identification of infection control issues and conducts both process and outcome monitoring. Monitors resident infections to ensure compliance including laboratory results, an?bio?c use, transmission-based precautions. Provides education to residents and visitors on standard and transmission-based precautions as needed.
Minimum Qualification Standards:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current active license as a Licensed Practical or Registered Nurse in this state. Must have completed or will complete within 30 days of hire as the Infection Preventionist the CDC "Nursing Home Infection Preventionist Training Course" located on the CDC's TRAIN website. #KF
