None Education and Experience :
Bachelor's degree or higher in Epidemiology, Microbiology, Biostatistics, Communicable/Infectious Disease, Public Health, Social Science, Health Science, or related field and two (2) years of experience in epidemiology, communicable/infectious disease investigation and control or biostatistics.
Licenses and Certificates :
Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state. General Purpose Under general supervision performs infectious disease preparedness and outbreak response activities. Typical Duties Responsible for carrying out a wide-range of design, implementation, and analysis of epidemiologic investigations or studies related to the surveillance, detection, prevention and response of infectious disease.
Involves:
Perform prevention and control of notifiable conditions and communicable diseases, including diseases related to potential Bioterrorism agents. Perform proper surveillance and reporting of normal disease occurrence and outbreak situations. Contribute to the identification, analysis, and resolution of chronic/environmental diseases. Investigate, provide intervention, and enhance the preparedness capabilities for selected epidemic communicable diseases, notifiable conditions and any related conditions/illnesses of public health significance. Ensure readiness for responding to Bioterrorism, outbreaks of infectious diseases, and other public health threats and emergencies. Perform community disease surveillance, including active surveillance. Collect lab specimens and interprets results. Provides appropriate prevention, control and educational activities. Prepare morbidity case investigations for surveillance reporting.
Involves:
Provide analysis of morbidity data. Participate in investigations and provides intervention for epidemic or unusual community health related episodes or outbreaks, including those related to potential Bioterrorism agents and other related public health issues which develop the public health preparedness capacities of the section. Provide information related to preparedness and other public health issues (telephone consultation, mail out and presentation) to individual schools, child care centers, nursing homes, hospitals, health care providers and other agencies to ensure readiness for responding to Bioterrorism, outbreaks of infectious diseases, and other public health threats/emergencies. Produce special reports and statistical analysis of epidemiological investigations to ensure readiness for responding to Bioterrorism, outbreaks of infectious diseases, and other public health threats/emergencies. Maintain and enhance current surveillance system, such as 24/7 disease surveillance coverage on rotating basis with other epidemiology staff.
Involves:
Establish and maintain relationships with hospital infection control practitioners, school health care coordinators and nurses to promote reporting of Texas notifiable conditions. Initiate active surveillance in day cares, school and long
- term care facilities when outbreak occurs.
Assist in the development of disease information literature. Participate in infectious disease preparedness and outbreak response activities.
