JOB SUMMARY
Calavo Growers has a unique student Internship opportunity for those looking to develop skills and knowledge of the agriculture industry and have a passion around fresh foods. This opportunity will include on-the-job training and networking with experienced professionals to gain industry experience covering the life cycle of positions within the industry and the avocado supply chain. This will include food safety, sales, marketing, quality control, production, support functions and best practices. This role is developmental and intended to provide a learning opportunity and aspects of key business processes to effectively support the management teams and Calavo Growers objectives.Routine responsibilities include:
Works alongside the management and team members to learn key business drivers and functions within sales, marketing, operations and food safety. Rotates to different departments to learn key aspects of the positions Helps with organizing events, trade shows, etc. Assist with developing marketing campaigns and promotional materials. May assist with market research to identify trends, competitor activity. May support special projects, promotions, or efforts to support existing accounts Research industry regulations and best practices. Gains an understanding of order processing, data entry, load tracking/tracing information across different platforms Help develop training materials related to food handling and safety protocols Gain an understanding of the avocado supply chain. Help develop training materials related to food handling and safety protocols. May prepare summaries of competitor information and trends. Other duties and projects as assigned.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
High School Diploma or GED Applicants must be attending any accredited, two or four-year degree-granting educational institution in the United States Applicants must be working towards a related major.Some applicable majors are:
Food Science, Business Administration, Retail Studies, Agriculture, Food Marketing, Merchandising preferred Strong communication skills, orally and in writing, to speak and present information to others and to convey information effectively.SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
Ability to apply critical thinking, use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Highly organized and detail-oriented Proficient knowledge of MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook). Ability to work well with others. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a positive disposition, high level of professionalism and work ethic.WORK DEMANDS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this Job it is primarily working in an office environment with prolonged sitting, standing and walking. Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, grab, carry items, talk, or hear with frequent use hands to finger, handle, and lift up to 30 lbs. Some administrative functions.
