Job Description

A well-established technical consulting firm is seeking an experienced Principal Hydrogeologist to lead hydrogeologic and mine water management projects in support of large-scale mining operations in North America and abroad.

This is a senior-level role designed for an individual who combines strong technical depth with project leadership capabilities. The position offers long-term growth potential, including expanded leadership and management responsibilities for candidates demonstrating strong performance and mentorship skills.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage technically complex hydrogeology and groundwater modeling projects.

Develop project scopes, schedules, and cost estimates; contribute to proposal preparation.

Plan and oversee field investigation programs, including drilling, monitoring well installation, aquifer and packer testing, piezometer installations, and water monitoring activities.

Develop conceptual site models to support numerical groundwater flow, unsaturated flow, and water balance modeling.

Build, calibrate, and apply numerical models as forecasting tools to support mine planning and water management decisions.

Design and evaluate groundwater control and dewatering systems for open pit and underground mining operations.

Prepare high-quality technical reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

Provide technical mentorship to junior and mid-level staff.

Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and external parties as required.

QualificationsEducationMaster's degree or higher in Hydrogeology or a related discipline (e.g., Geology, Hydrology, Civil/Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources).ExperienceApproximately 15+ years of professional experience, with significant exposure to mining hydrogeology and mine water management.

Technical SkillsAdvanced experience with groundwater modeling tools (e.g., MODFLOW-based platforms), aquifer test analysis, and GIS software.

Familiarity with additional modeling or visualization tools (e.g., finite-element flow models, probabilistic or systems modeling software) is beneficial.

Experience with scripting or automation (e.g., Python, VBA) is considered an asset.

CredentialsProfessional licensure (Professional Geologist or Professional Engineer) is preferred but not required.

Additional RequirementsAbility to travel periodically (estimated 5-15%) based on project needs.

Willingness and ability to participate in field assignments under varied environmental conditions.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Spanish language skills are a plus.
