Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Gemologist/Jewelry Appraiser to join our jewelry appraisal team. The ideal candidate will possess a deep knowledge of gemstones, precious metals, and jewelry craftsmanship, combined with strong analytical and technical skills. In this role, you will evaluate jewelry pieces with precision, provide accurate appraisals for insurance, resale, or estate purposes, and ensure adherence to industry standards. Your expertise will support clients in understanding the value and authenticity of their jewelry collections while maintaining the highest levels of professionalism and integrity. Duties Conduct thorough examinations of gemstones and jewelry using specialized tools such as microscopes, refractometers, and spectrometers to determine authenticity and quality. Assess gemstone characteristics including cut, color, clarity, and carat weight to establish accurate valuations. Prepare detailed appraisal reports that clearly communicate findings, values, and descriptions for clients. Stay current with industry trends, market prices, and emerging gemstone treatments or enhancements to provide informed evaluations. Collaborate with clients to explain appraisal results clearly and answer questions regarding gemstone properties or jewelry provenance. Maintain records of all evaluations, photographs, and documentation in compliance with professional standards. Ensure all appraisal activities adhere to relevant industry guidelines such as those established by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) or other recognized authorities. Skills Extensive knowledge of gemology principles including gemstone identification techniques. Proficiency in using computer software. Excellent mathematical skills for precise measurement calculations. $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
