Job Description
Specific Responsibilities The Geophysicist II has the ability to undertake more complex geophysical tasks independently, such as interpreting seismic data, developing quantitative interpretation models, and participating in drilling operations. This role also supports subsurface characterization and development within the Permian Basin by integrating seismic, well, and geological data to drive exploration and development decisions.
Seismic Data Interpretation:
Independently interpret seismic data (2D/3D) to identify fault systems, stratigraphic traps, and reservoir targets; generate and utilize seismic attributes where appropriateData Integration:
Analyze and integrate geological and geophysical data (seismic, well logs, cores) to build consistent subsurface interpretations and support geomodeling workflowsWell Logs and Core Data:
Apply understanding of well logs and core data to define lithology, porosity, permeability, and fluid content, and integrate with seismic interpretationGeologic & Velocity Modeling:
Assist in development of geological models, including time-depth conversion and velocity frameworksWell Planning & Drilling Support:
Support well planning, including target definition and depth uncertainty; participate in drilling operations, log evaluation, and post-well analysisProject Leadership:
Manage small technical projects and coordinate with geology, reservoir engineering, petrophysics, geomechanics, and operations teamsProspect Identification:
Support identification and evaluation of exploration, development, and recompletion opportunitiesGeoscience Software:
Apply advanced features of software such as Petrel and utilize tools like GeoX/Rose RA and PaleoscanData Quality & Seismic Improvement:
Evaluate seismic data quality and support reprocessing or acquisition effortsMentoring:
Provide guidance to junior geoscientistsReporting & Communication:
Prepare reports and present findings to stakeholders SkillsSeismic Interpretation:
Competent in seismic interpretation, including structural mapping and basic attribute analysisAdvanced Analysis:
Proficient in interpreting geological data and developing modelsWell Log and Core Interpretation:
Ability to integrate well log and core data into subsurface modelsSoftware Proficiency:
Solid skills in Petrel and related toolsEngineering Awareness:
Basic understanding of reservoir and completion engineering and how geoscience impacts development decisionsBusiness Acumen:
Intermediate knowledge of petroleum economics and Value of Information conceptsTechnical Communication:
Expanding ability to present to technical and non-technical audiencesCollaboration:
Ability to work across disciplines within an asset team environment Qualifications & Experience The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Geology or Geophysics or related field; Geoscience Master's degree preferred.
