We are looking for a Junior Hydrologist, Hydrogeologist, or Environmental Engineer to join the Environmental Team at the Carlin operation. This team is primarily responsible for maintaining environmental compliance by assessing and mitigating potential impacts from mining. Due to the extensive dewatering effort and reoccurring study work at the mine site, Carlin is seeking an individual to maintain compliance with environmental monitoring associated with dewatering activities and assist in management in reoccurring site characterization and study work. Collaborate with site, corporate, and consulting teams to identify and address potential surface and groundwater quantity and quality impacts due to mining activities Ensure regulatory compliance is maintained for the following programs: Groundwater and Surface Water Monitoring Plans, Seeps & Springs Monitoring Plans, Water Pollution Control Permits, National Pollution Discharge Elevation Systems Permits and other associated water mitigation and monitoring plans, as assigned. Assist in the interpretation and reporting of monitoring data and findings. Assist in the management and development of reoccurring technical model updates and study work (i.e. Pit Lake Studies, Groundwater Model updates, etc.) including engagement with regulators and gaining regulatory approvals for required studies. Conduct monitoring tasks (as necessary) using the site's established monitoring protocols and mitigation thresholds. This includes well water level monitoring, surface water flows, water quality sampling, and other monitoring criteria established in the mine's water monitoring programs. Ability to manage projects, adhere to budgets, and direct contractor work. Assess the effectiveness of water monitoring and mitigation measures. Ensure accurate collection and reporting of data, in accordance with the mine's quality assurance/quality control standards. Contribute to water management strategies. Oversee data management and generate regulatory reports. Comply with state and federal health and safety regulations, as well as company policies and procedures. Responsible for periodic after-hours on-call response to environmental incidents, as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Geology, Geochemistry, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science or another related field required. Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, engineering, and/or dewatering preferred. One (1) to three (3) years direct experience in environmental compliance, including field sampling and monitoring preferred. Experience with dewatering systems, hydrologic, hydrogeologic, geochemical principles, and hydrologic and geochemical modeling preferred. Demonstrated ability to operate independently and in small multi-disciplinary teams required. Experience with various surface and groundwater sampling and vegetation monitoring techniques preferred. Familiarity with impacts of dewatering activities on groundwater and surface water/vegetation preferred. Excellent computer skills (eg. MS Office, EQuIS, GIS or other data management/computer programs) required. Excellent safety record with ability to demonstrate safety leadership required. Willing and able to work in adverse weather conditions required. Familiarity with compliance systems andISO 14001
preferred. This position requires the ability to regularly walk over uneven, sloped, rocky, wet or icy ground and the ability to lift 40 or more pounds consistently and safely.
