Job Description

DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Laboratory Technologist/Scientist implements the hospital and laboratory mission, goals, and objectives. This includes the performance of clinical laboratory exams, proficiency testing, quality control, professional consultation, instrument maintenance and validation, testing management, instructing and evaluating students, and other functions toward the attainment of these goals.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
(Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)
Experience:
One year experience in an approved laboratory preferred.
Education and Training:
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, microbiology, toxicology. or related field required.
License, Certification & Registration:
Successful completion of ASCP Categorical exam in blood bank, molecular, hematology, microbiology or chemistry preferred.
Other Requirements:
Completion of a structured education program designed under the auspices of a NACCLS accredited Medical Laboratory Science program. Independent judgment and initiative required to schedule, organize, and plan work. Flexibility and adaptability in emergency situations including working additional hours or shifts. Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and alertly for extended periods of time, and under stress, to ensure against errors. Above average manual dexterity, visual acuity to discriminate color reactions Effective communication skills, use of computer systems, listening, speaking, writing and reading. Knowledge of HIS and LIS, assorted laboratory analyzers and equipment appropriate to scope of position and dependent upon current technology.
