Job Description

Job Summary:
Collects and handles clinical specimens. Performs therapeutic and diagnostic laboratory test procedures, operates laboratory equipment, and reports results. Participates in quality management and accreditation activities. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and is able to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs. Has knowledge of age, gender specific reference ranges and uses that knowledge in the performance and verification of patient test results.
Performance Expectations:
Performance expectations will be covered in the orientation and preceptor phases of your orientation to your job. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills as evidenced by leaving notes, exchanging emails, and proper phone etiquette. Properly utilizes laboratory equipment, microscopes, and instrumentation which will be demonstrated during the clinical orientation phase. Troubleshoots technical multiple pieces of laboratory equipment, microscopes, and instrumentation using available resources such as equipment user manual, hospital procedures, and/or technical support. Utilizes safe laboratory work habits in all situations to avoid potential accidents or injuries. Multitasks and prioritizes workload to ensure an efficient workflow. Performs laboratory tests with precision and accuracy in a timely manner to ensure quality patient care. Follows laboratory guidelines set forth by CLIA to ensure the department meets or exceeds all laboratory requirements.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills B.S. in medical technology or equivalent required.
Work Experience:
None required Certification/Licensure - Preferred MT (ASCP), CLT (NCA), elgible for same or equivalent credentials Additional Certification/Licensure -
Preferred Basic Life Support Mental Demands:
Ability to prioritize and organize tasks, multitask, communicate effectively, cooperate with others, perform test procedures correctly, perform quality control procedures, perform instrument maintenance procedures, report test results accurately, perform repetitive tasks, follow directions precisely, problem solve, and use critical thinking skills in the interpretation of test results.
