Medical Laboratory Scientist - - Sendouts Lifespan United States, Rhode Island, Providence 593 Eddy St (Show on map) May 19, 2026 Summary Under the general supervision of a Specialist, Manager, or Director, this role performs a variety of complex clinical laboratory tests within one or more sections of the Pathology Department. The position requires professional-level knowledge to accurately read, analyze, and interpret test results, including abnormal or atypical findings. Key responsibilities include equipment calibration, performance and interpretation of complex testing and quality control results, and troubleshooting laboratory instruments. All duties must reflect sensitivity to the age-specific needs of patients. Prepare and assess solutions, reagents, and stains according to standard procedures; verify expiration dates and properly label (date/initial) materials upon opening. Perform complex clinical laboratory testing using methodologies such as:

EIA, IFA

Chemiluminescence RIA Electrophoresis Immunoassay Colorimetry Monitor testing procedures, analyze results, and interpret findings with professional judgment. Evaluate clinical significance of results and collaborate with colleagues or leadership on unusual findings; report results to physicians or regulatory bodies (e.g., DOH) as required. Assist in training and orienting new employees, students, and residents. Conduct quality control checks on equipment and reagents; document and evaluate results to identify issues. Support development and validation of new laboratory tests and procedures. Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, including preventive maintenance and coordination with manufacturer support as needed. Clean and maintain lab equipment, instruments, and work areas. Manage inventory and ensure proper stocking of supplies. Participate in Quality Assurance and Improvement initiatives. Maintain Rhode Island State CLS License (minimum of 15 continuing education hours annually). Comply with all Quality Assurance, Safety, Infection Control, and HIPAA regulations. Perform additional duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Laboratory Science (e.g., Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or related field), or equivalent education/experience as defined by CLIA standards. Certifications National certification (ASCP or equivalent) in one or more specialties, such as: Medical Laboratory Science Medical Technology Microbiology Chemistry Hematology OR one of the following: Eligibility for certification through completion of an accredited clinical laboratory training program (ABHES, NAACLS, or HHS-approved). Previously qualified (or eligible) under CLIA standards for testing personnel. Skills & Abilities Ability to operate laboratory equipment and perform assigned tests accurately. Strong analytical skills to interpret laboratory data. Physical and visual dexterity required for conducting and evaluating tests. Ability to stand for extended periods and work at laboratory benches. Knowledge of patient care needs across all age groups, development stages, and cultural backgrounds. Experience Minimum of one (1) year of clinical laboratory experience. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Exposure to odors, infectious materials, toxins, and other hazardous substances. Frequent visual strain due to detailed specimen analysis. Regular physical activity, including standing, lifting, and carrying supplies.

Pay Range:

$29.53-$48.72
