Incumbent uses other system network services. Interprets and evalues raw da which is critical to issuing accure and regularly scheduled forecasts and emergency advisories. Inspects and performs routine user level maintenance and services on various weher equipment and instruments. Observes weher and mospheric conditions, records and interprets meteorological da, transmits and reports on recorded informion, and provides meteorological informion and advice to the general public through the Avalanche Center. Ensures th regular field snow pack observions are conducted and approprie da is collected to inform avalanche forecast. Uses judgment when interpreting raw avalanche da. Issues avalanche warnings when criteria are met, and termines such avalanche warnings when expired. Uses accepted observion procedures as well as standard practices modified to meet the relevant conditions to provide current advisories. Performs tasks observing, recording, transmitting mospheric and weher informion including air pressure, temperure, humidity, wind, precipition, cloud and ultraviolet conditions, snow stability, and analyzes and interprets weher da. Maintains automed da on computer systems which contain historical mountain weher informion. Uses these systems to communice with others regarding weher da and to improve forecasting methods. Composes and issues regularly scheduled emergency weher forecasts using the computer as well as dissemines and termines advisories. Provides training and guidance on avalanches and avalanche reled work. On occasion, provides avalanche and mountain weher educion sessions to schools, professional groups and others. Expert ability to ski and snowmobile in a backcountry setting (outside of ski area boundaries), proven ability to effectively and safely travel in and around avalanche terrain, and the ability to read snowpack, weher and avalanche trends in a field setting. Advanced skills, experience and confidence in companion avalanche rescue scenarios. Proven experience forecasting mountain weher and avalanche conditions. Experience conducting and presenting contemporary snow and avalanche research. Selective Placement Factors Applicant must have the ability to safely and efficiently navige mountainous terrain in a harsh winter environment using backcountry skis and snowmobiles. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through Nional Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizions (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience th transles directly to paid employment.
