48 We are seeking a Microbiologist to support high-priority food testing initiatives related to H5N1 (bird flu) within a state-of-the-art public health laboratory. This role is based on a large, modern campus and supports critical public health efforts in collaboration with a leading government health organization. Contra Costa County, CA (Onsite) Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM $38-$48/hr (flexible) Contract through end of June (potential extension) Key Responsibilities Process incoming food samples (including milk) and enter/track data accurately Perform routine laboratory testing in a regulated environment Conduct ddPCR and RT-PCR testing on samples Perform whole genome sequencing (WGS) and support viral analysis Record, analyze, and communicate test results to internal teams Maintain laboratory equipment including calibration, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance Support lab operations including sample prep, autoclaving, equipment setup, and cleaning Maintain accurate documentation and quality records in compliance with SOPs Monitor inventory and assist with ordering lab supplies Ensure lab cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety and quality standards Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, or related field 1+ years of experience in a food testing or microbiology lab Hands-on experience with ddPCR or RT-PCR Experience with whole genome sequencing Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy Excellent communication and teamwork skills This job description is a complete list of all desired skills, but not all are required.
