Full Job Description Position Objective:
Provide laboratory diagnostic, immunological/virological, and/or sequencing support for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Coronavirus and Other Respiratory Viruses Division (CORVD) respiratory virus work, including assay execution, documentation, and quality practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform molecular assays to detect/type/characterize respiratory viruses. Support assay platform design/evaluation and contribute to surveillance studies. Draft SOPs, worksheets, job aids, validation plans/reports. Maintain lab records; support internal/external audit readiness. Attend team meetings and provide updates on lab activities. Contribute to abstracts, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications as needed. Maintain required medical clearance (e.g., respiratory fit testing) when applicable.
Basic Qualifications:
1-3 years of laboratory experience in virology/microbiology/assay development or related field (preferably public health) Bachelor's degree in microbiology or related field Experience working with human specimens and/or clinical data in a lab environment Strong documentation habits and attention to detail (records, SOPs, validation documentation) Ability to follow laboratory safety and quality practices; support audits Ability to obtain/maintain Public Trust suitability and comply with CDC policies
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with sequencing assays/platforms and high-throughput workflows Strong scientific communication (manuscripts, figures, verbal presentation) Experience working with CDC staff at multiple organizational levels This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required by this position.
