Job Description

Job Title:
Microbiologist Job Description The Microbiology Specialist performs routine and advanced microbiological testing to support product release, environmental monitoring, and food safety compliance. This role ensures products and processes meet internal quality standards and regulatory requirements through accurate testing, data analysis, and strict adherence to aseptic and biosafety practices. The specialist partners closely with Quality and Production teams to identify risks and drive continuous improvement across the facility. Responsibilities Conduct microbiological testing on raw materials, finished products, and environmental samples, including pH testing, streak plating, and microbial luminescence assays. Apply aseptic technique and biosafety practices to maintain sample integrity and data accuracy. Adhere to GMPs, food safety programs, and site quality policies. Monitor critical microbiological controls and promptly escalate food safety or quality concerns. Perform routine environmental monitoring (air, surface, and equipment) and trend data to identify potential risks. Analyze, interpret, and document test results; prepare reports in alignment with QMS requirements. Support compliance with
FSSC, ISO
9001, and internal microbiology standards. Assist with test method verification, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, and hygiene standards. Contribute to SOP updates, documentation control, and continuous improvement initiatives. Provide microbiology and hygiene training to technicians and production personnel as needed. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Food Science, or a related life science preferred. 1-3 years of experience in a microbiology lab, food manufacturing, or similar regulated environment preferred. Strong understanding of microbiological principles, aseptic technique, and food safety systems. Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced lab setting. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Solid data analysis, basic statistical, and trend analysis capabilities. Proficient with laboratory systems, Microsoft Office, and data management tools. Ability to work independently while collaborating within cross-functional teams. Work Environment This position follows a 2/2/3 rotation on 12-hour day shifts (6:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.), including some weekends. The work environment involves working in a laboratory setting, requiring adherence to laboratory cleanliness, organization, and hygiene standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Anderson, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
