Summary:
The Bacterial Core Lead Scientist provides technical leadership for core bacteriology research and supports coordination of high-containment animal studies and in vitro assay development. Leads the core bacterial research team, overseeing method development and execution of studies supporting countermeasure development.
Responsibilities Essential Job Functions:
Implement and validate automated assay platforms. Program and maintain liquid handling instruments. Assist in transitioning manual protocols to high-throughput systems. Analyze data output and troubleshoot protocols. Contribute to process documentation and quality control. The contractor will be expected to execute their assigned tasks, and to share their findings with other members of the project team. The Contractor is expected to write reports and publications and present their findings in meetings.
Qualifications Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
Advanced knowledge of bacterial genetics and immunology. Strong leadership and technical documentation skills. Familiarity with animal study protocols. Shall be knowledgeable in a relevant field of the life sciences and have desired experience working in a research laboratory. Have demonstrated their subject matter expertise in several areas, and their ability to conduct independent research through publication of several technical reports and/or peer-reviewed publications. Demonstrates experience managing a research laboratory and a small cadre of technicians. Possesses good written and oral communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in microbiology or infectious disease research. Minimum 6+ years in bacteriology, with experience leading technical research teams. Experience in BSL-3 operations. Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance eligibility, with no access to classified information, is required. Enroll in the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP), if required.
Preferred Qualifications:
ACTIVE SECRET
